Taking a walk can easily add many years on to your life span.

Walking is definitely not new to humans. We have been doing it for nearly a million years, and we could go a step further and say we were designed to walk. Not to say that we weren't designed to run, but if we take a look at our human evolution and at the skeletal systems of our ancestors, we know that walking has indeed been the exercise that we have done the most since we have existed, its just that for most of our existence, it wasn't thoughted of as exercise, it was simply what we did while looking for food.

Fast forward to today and we have an obesity epidemic going on right here in the U.S and in reality across the world. Gadgets have taken over, and we no longer need to go looking for food consequently our bodies are not getting the exercise that they were designed for. So how has that impacted the modern-day human? It's simply inactivity. If something which was really designed to move, stops moving, it becomes rusty and seizes up, and that's what has ultimately happened to us. But within that dilemma, is a very straightforward solution. Get moving again. Walking and stretching are the key to it.

The amount you ought to be aiming for is 10,000 steps or 1 hour a day followed by 15 minutes of deep stretching. Brand-new research from Stanford released in the Journal of experimental psychology: Learning and memory cognition, found that walking improves creativity. They experimented with people facing a blank wall on a running machine and walking outdoors in nature and discovered that no mater where the subjects walked, they had far more creativity than the subjects who were simply sitting. When you consider that research has also shown that people who use their minds creatively tend to have healthier minds and don't have the tendency to suffer from things like Alzheimer's disease.

By beginning a routine of walking, you will substantially improve your circulation and your cardiovascular health. As the months and years go by, this habit will reverse all the years of inactivity and add years back to your life, but its something that has to be implemented and maintained for the remainder of your life. Many people have reversed the effects of diabetes, including type 2 diabetes with time, and the main reason for that, is as you walk for long periods of time, gradually you lose weight which takes the strain off all your internal organs and they start to function normally again, which consequently lowers your blood sugar levels. Of course nutrition is essential as well, and its been well documented what the health benefits of doing away with refined sugars and carbohydrates, and going back to a diet of grass-fed meat, vegetables, fruit, eggs, nuts and seeds.

When beginning a walking routine, its best to walk at a nice easy pace for an hour and later increase the speed over weeks and months until you can walk at a very brisk pace for an hour. Focus on breathing deeply, all the way in and all the way out to really circulate the air through the lungs. I find listening to music really helps to pass the time, or taking a walk in nature can be very therapeutic as well. Where ever you decide to walk is fine, but the most essential thing is to make a commitment to walk 10,000 steps every day and make that a daily priority.
