Seeing his antics on the Oprah Winfrey Show is not normally what you 'd hope for in someone you would hold up as a leader or role model. On the other hand when he was on Top Gear he was more 'normal' and came across as much more likable.

Today most of us learn leadership lessons, both bad and good, from the actions of celebrities. All to often those celebrities, politicians, entertainment personalities and sports figures provide us with the opposite of the kinds of leadership examples that will take us toward more successful and productive lives.

I believe we 'd all be better off if we followed the lead of positive role models and leaders while perhaps pointing out the unfortunate behaviors of others, like Justin Bieber, as actions unlikely to take us in he direction of success we hope for.

Your current and future success or failure depends on your ability to consistently make better business decisions, often based on the insights we pick up from people we on TV - one of the reason for watching it in the first place. Not just at their concerts, but the examples of the personality's behavior and character illustrated by them when they are not on stage.

The film career of Tom Cruise is one with a very lengthy list of hit movies. He has been nominated three times for Academy Awards. Ironically, nine co-stars in roles with him have won an Academy Award. He has won three Golden Globe Awards. He was born July 3, 1962. His first film was Endless Love in 1981.

Who can forget Cruise in his underwear singing along in Risky Business? This is the role that made him a household name. Very few of his movies haven't done well, and that makes Cruise worth a great deal of money in films. Top Gun continues to be one of the most watched movies from the 80s.

Cruise was one of the celebrities asked to attend the funeral of Princess Diana in 1997. He is one of the few actors who hasn't made an attempt at directing.

Perhaps one of the most serious roles that Cruise has ever taken on is in the movie Valkyrie. He portrayed an individual trying to kill Hitler and the failed efforts that led to the execution of many. Another serious role that is hard to forget him in is Born on the Fourth of July about a Vietnam solider returning home.

Cruise has tarnished his reputation in some areas, costing him fans and even some acting roles. First, his ties with Scientology haven't always made him the easiest person to get along with in a work environment. Second, he openly talked poorly of Brooke Shields after she talked about her issues with Post-Partum depression. Cruise did apologize but it didn't take away the damage he had done in the eyes of women out there that felt he was heartless and cruel in his comments.

While many women may dream of a life with Tom Cruise, those that have done so haven't found it to be all they were looking for. He has three children - two adopted with Kidman and one biological with Holmes.

Today there is an element of leadership in every aspect of our lives and our businesses. As a successful person your leadership strategy often depends on the social cues you receive. That how choose the leadership lessons learned and those to avoid at all costs.
