Paleo diet curing health problems that western medicine has been unable to, is a rather big claim by anyones standards, yet to real Paleo enthusiasts, its a claim that some are willing to stand by. To start with, there are some undeniable truths concerning disease and the correlation (I said correlation not causation) between them. One of those truths is that we are now getting sicker and have ended up being more over weight than at any other period before. It's also true that just in the last 100 years, have we seen heart disease as well as obesity surfacing. There must be a reason for that and the majority of Paleo people, also including myself believe we know why.
It's all to do with our human genetics, what we were designed to eat, and just what we have been consuming for thousands, maybe a million years and what we are giving our children to eat right now. It all started around 10,000 years ago when we put the wheels in motion for what was to become the agricultural revolution. We decided that the quantity of grain that we were producing, for the amount of space it took up, was insufficient which lead us to start to genetically modify the grain, we wanted more of it to grow in less space. What we really did not know at that point which we now know, is that our bodies were already totally adapted to eating everything the way nature made it, and this new genetically modified stuff, was in fact harmful to our system, our bodies did not know how to digest it, and thats where the troubles started.
Give us our daily bread, in Jesus's period, was really as nature had planned it, but unfortunately now genetically modified grain is wrecking havoc on our digestive systems creating leaky gut and activating all sorts of auto-immune issues. Genetically modified corn waste is actually used to make high fructose corn syrup, which is in everything from soft drinks, to low-fat products to just about any processed sugar products. It's a killer and modern medicine and in fact our state and federal government is becoming aware of this. So what do we need to do? And what health benefits can we anticipate by avoiding these foods? The answer is so simple, if man made it, don't eat it. Consider that momentarily. If it can be found in a can or in a packet or in a box, essentially its not going to be good for you. The Paleo concept is really to try and eat what nature has provided for us as well as to get rid of the foods that nature originally provided, but which we then genetically began to modify 10,000 years back and are still modifying today.
What we are simply saying is if we go back to fruit, vegetables, grass-fed (not grain fed) meat, fish, seafood, eggs, nuts and seeds we will go back to our natural well-balanced state. My mother had experienced stomach and digestive problems for over 20 years, inside one week of eating Paleo, they had already vanished. My father, who is now 80 years old and has joint inflammations, has lost 10 kg and now no longer suffering from the arthritis just after 1 month of eating Paleo. There are literally thousands of these kinds of stories out there from people who have taken their health back into their own hands by adopting the Paleo way of nutrition. It's challenging to quit all the fast food and sweet drinks and snacks that we now live on, but if you are really unhealthy and this sounds like your diet, its about time you at least made an effort, to see if there is something in this Paleo lifestyle.
