The world of cosmetics will not hesitate on taking advantage of how women feel about themselves. Some even pay doctors to report positive reviews about certain products. Women must be wise consumers; they should know what ingredient makes a product work versus the claim a product makes. Some high-end, expensive eyelash serums work, some do not. Some cheap, drugstore eyelash products work and again, some do not.
Here's a fun fact: lash serums only work as long as you use them. There are approximately 100 to 150 lash strands in each eye. Eyelashes have three stages of growth, the growth stage, the dormant stage and the falling off stage. In the growth stage, eyelashes actively sprout from the hair follicle. During this time, they need the most nutrition they can get. Their length depends on nature and nurture - genetics and nutrition. Constant mascara application dries out lashes because although they lengthen lashes temporarily, they act as a hard glove over each lash, preventing moisture to enter and absorbing the lash's natural oils.
The growth phase lasts from 1 to 2 months. Next, lashes enter a dormant stage after 1 to 2 months. At this stage the lashes stop growing. They remain attached to the hair follicle until they mature and fall off naturally. However, constant eye rubbing, application of mascara and eyelash curling can cause lashes in the dormant stage to be brittle and fall off prematurely. Additionally, it is during the dormant stage that lashes need more nutrients and moisture to stay attached to the follicle. Once you stop using eyelash serums, the growth of your lashes would go back to normal.
Previously long lashes due to serum application will inevitably fall off , so whatever effects of the eyelash enhancing product you invested on will just simply go away once you stop using it and the lashes have finished the dormant stage. Unless you are willing to spend hundreds of dollars on a 3 to 5 ml tube that works as well as more competitively priced eyelash growth serums, choosing a reasonably priced and fairly effective serum is the best way for long lashes.
How long will eyelash serums last?
Eyelash enhancing serums will give you natural false eyelashes as long as you are using it. They are meant to be used once a day before retiring. 3ml to 5 ml lasts surprisingly around 3 to 5 months because you really just need a very little amount on your lashes. Unless you also apply them on your eyebrows or share them with your family (un-recommended and unhygienic), expect a tube to last 3 to 5 months. The maximum results can be seen on the 6th month.
Caution on Eyelash Growth Products
Any eyelash product should not cause burning, swelling, itching or redness of the eyes. If you experience adverse reactions, immediately stop using it and consult your doctor if conditions worsened.
