Chocolate Salami and Australian Shiraz Reserve
The sole dessert in the LeVinRouge Italian Special Series. This is the dessert that Mom's and Dad's need to know about!! It's such an simple recipe to make, and there's plenty of fun to be enjoyed if you wish to get the little ones involved and fire up an interest in baking perhaps. Added bonus - it's easy to tidy up afterwards!
For the adults - pair with a 2011 Vintage, Jacob's Creek Reserve Shiraz. This is a magnificent pairing. One of the very best wines we have recommended yet, the chocolate features of this excellent wine, pair superbly with the chocolate-heavy dessert.
Preparation Time: 15 mins
Setting Time: 4 hours
Ingredients (Makes 1 Log - 8 inches * 2.5 inches):
100g Chocolate
100g Butter
3 Eggs
2 Tbsp Cacao
3 Tbsp Sugar
Maria Biscuits
Method:
For Mom/Dad:
Melt the butter and chocolate in a bowl placed on top of a pot of boiling water. Add a small few drops of water to the mix. Not more than 2 fingers of water.
For the Kids (with Mom/Dad's help):
Whisk the three eggs in a bowl with the 100 grams of sugar. As soon as the adult helping you has finished melting the chocolate, add this to your egg and sugar mix, and whisk again until both the chocolate and the eggs are completely mixed together.
Now for the fun part. Place 8-10 Maria biscuits into a zip bag. Seal the zip, and put the bag on a chopping board. Use the palm of your hand and your fingers to break the biscuits underneath. It's best not to break the biscuits to dust. You ought to keep some crunch for your dessert.
When you have finished crushing your biscuits, open the bag and pour the biscuits into the chocolate and mix. Now you you will need to begin to build your Chocolate Salami. Tip: You can include raisins, walnuts, whatever you desire, to your mix here if you wish to build an even more elaborate salami.
You will need someone's help here as it may get a little messy. Lay out a sheet of clingfilm on your chopping board and pour the chocolate and biscuit mix into the clingfilm along a long line. Wrap the film in a cylindrical shape at this point and when you have achieved your desired shape, seal the clingfilm at each side. Now place the salami onto a sheet of aluminum foil, and wrap again even tighter to secure the shape of the salami. Put the Chocolate Salami in the fridge for 4 hours, when that time is up, remove, slice, serve and ENJOY!! Suggestion: Can be served by itself, with ice-cream or perhaps fresh whipped cream for an even more luscious dessert experience.
