There is no exception as to who can experience it. Some factors that seem to have increased the likelihood of developing it are carrying excessive load , improper body mechanics, lack of physical activities and disproportionate body weight. However, studies have not proven any direct or clear correlation between back pain and these causes.

There are a number of approaches that can be done in order to address back pain. Usually, it already gets better with even just a brief bed rest. There is no need to stop one's activities of daily living unless it aggravates or triggers the pain. Also, one cannot go wrong with consulting a physician. Take only the medications prescribed by the doctor and follow the instructions given to prevent adverse reactions. Another step that can be done is physical therapy.

This includes heat application, electrical stimulation and muscle-relaxation techniques. However, if the pain starts to radiate to other parts of the body especially to the legs, injection of the anti-inflammatory agent cortisone may be recommended. In more severe cases, surgery may be performed. This happens only to a few people but most of them are those who are suffering from progressive muscle weakness due to nerve compression.

For those who opt to try unconventional procedures in managing the pain, they might want to read more about the following. First is the chiropractic care. It is a type of alternative medicine which focuses on preventing, diagnosing and treating mechanical problems of the musculoskeletal system, especially of the spine. Back pain is usually one of the reasons why people seek the help of chiropractors. Second is acupuncture. It is a treatment procedure of Chinese origin which involves the stimulation of different points in the body by inserting sterilized needles into the skin. Third is massage. Since back pain commonly occurs due to strained muscles, this therapeutic technique may help ease it by promoting their relaxation. Fourth is yoga. It is a practice that involves the use of different body poses, relaxation techniques and breathing exercises to improve the performance of the respiratory, circulatory, musculoskeletal, digestive and hormonal systems.

Back pain should not be neglected just because it is common. In contrast, it should be given attention since it affects a great number of people. Knowledge about it can already help in the prevention of its occurrence. There is no harm in trying to know more about it.
