A short while ago I did a bit of research so as to identify what needed to be done to heighten my being exposed on my Facebook fan page. I had been a bit alarmed to find out from Facebook's own information, that only a small number of fans were able to view my updates.
In fact, my analysis uncovered that generally, only 16 % of Facebook "fans" i.e. individuals that have given a "Like" to your fan page, would ever see your posts, unless they check out your fan page directly. This dismal truth is a consequence of a Facebook algorithm named Edgerank, which determines the significance and exposure of your post. The problem, of course, is that only 4 % of viewers ever return to your fan page whenever they have given it a like.
Thankfully, a new ranking system was disclosed recently that will operate on a different algorithm and will hopefully allow fan page posts (and personal posts) to get more exposure.
What can be done to improve the number of people who actually do see your posts?
Engagement Is The Key
There is a considerable benefit for your interaction on Facebook. More readers will see your posts to the extent that Facebook views you as active and engaged. The number of people who were able to view my posts rose 685 % when I began doing the things I recommend below.
"Like" Posts More Often.
Frequently when you view an "update", click on the "Like" button so the poster knows you saw it, and so FB views you as being truly engaged. That quick simple move serves to help both the poster and the Like-er. Pressing the "Like" button does not mean you like what was said, it only means you read it. You don't need to know the poster personally to like their post.
Enter A Comment
On a few of the posts that you consider to be valuable, Like it, then post a comment, even if simply to say, "Awesome idea" or "Many thanks for the post" or what ever. Again, Facebook loves the engagement.
Share Posts You Consider Valuable
If you repost by pressing the Share button, make sure you add your own short note about it. You could just simply create a quick word about why you thought it was valuable enough to share. Again, you receive more engagement points from Facebook and more people will see your posts. Plus, you helped the poster and motivated them to keep posting valued content. You can repost anyone's content. They don't have to be in your MLM organization.
Click On Links
If the post includes a link to the person's webpage, or blog, or Youtube video, click on the link and go take a look. Facebook appreciates to see click-throughs and it will greatly benefit the poster.
Make A Friend Request
If someone frequently posts things you consider important, click on their Facebook name to head to their personal Facebook page and send a friend request. Be sure to also send a message informing them you sent the request and why, so that you don't just appear to be a spammer.
Look around their FB personal page and try to find a link to their fan page, so you may also LIKE and comment on posts there if you have not yet done so. The flip side of the coin is, of course, that we must all have links to our fan pages somewhere on the personal page (and vice versa) so it is convenient for viewers to find. There is a place in the "About" section, for you to put a link to your fan page, blog or whatever. Use it.
All of this brings me to my final technique. We learn from "Attraction Marketing" that people can come to know, like and trust you when you deliver value instead of just a sales pitch. That certainly applies to Facebook updates. Remember that nobody wants to be sold anything.
So ask yourself how you can give value to people when you create posts for your Facebook fanpage.
