This comes in handy in the event you need to leave your storage behind and come back to it later. To store a large amount of water properly, you first need to buy a special barrel for water storage. Proper containers for water and filters should be first place in a survivalist's list.

How will you protect yourself and your family in a catastrophe? What if society disintegrates into anarchy? The strongest people will steal to survive, because they are not prepared. As the event continues, people will start to kill for the basic necessities they once had

Here are some tips on how to active your survival plan

Leave the city or area if you want maximum survival. Create more than one bug out bag and keep a majority of your bags within your automobile or bury them at a distance to pick up along the way. Choose a few areas to vacate to, never just leave without a validate destination.

A second option is to remain and not go anywhere. To ensure your safety of yourself, family and others, the house, home, condo etc., needs to be secure. Do not rely on a simple deadbolt door and closed windows to protect you. These will do nothing to stop someone from entering your home, killing you and taking your supplies. You need to stock weapons. Weapon of choice in close quarters is a shotgun and handgun. Buy more than one and stock up on ammunition. A few hundred rounds will not do in a situation like this. You need enough to last a few months or more.

The kind of ammunition is important. A combination of shotgun buckshot and slugs will do you well. In the event you need to vacate the area quickly, slugs will allow you to penetrate a wall rather fast. Even brick walls are no match for a shotgun slug.

For your handgun, you don't want a heavy grain. Remember this is close quarters and you want maximum control over your weapon. I recommend 45 caliber or 9mm. These are the most common caliber on the market and much easier to find ammunition. In the event your city, town, village or whatever falls to an outside force, finding ammunition is a lot easier for weapons of these caliber than some obscure caliber type. Try to find an abundance of 10mm ammo and you will see what I am talking about.

For those staying and not leaving, you may want to contemplate building a greenhouse vegetable garden. You may want to also invest in a plough for planting

I am sure you may feel that a large truck or car is the ideal transportation, but if you want to get off the roads, you should learn how to ride a horse and maintain one. Even a donkey or mule would suit this need.
