When we were young, stress wasn't common in our vocabulary, at least for those who had a happy childhood. Until we went to college, started a job, had a family and aged, stress has been a constant companion.
Foods play a big factor in stress management as well as prevention because stress is also connected with nutrition. Foods can either worsen or lessen your stress levels. People who are stressed usually resort to emotional eating. They eat whatever they feel like eating, usually in large amounts.
If you are the type who worries a lot or who imagines about many future implications of your present problems although it is not necessary, then the following are the right menu for you.
• Banana- this fruit is known to make one feel happy. It regulates blood sugar and does a lot of other benefits to one's health. At least a banana a day keeps stress away.
• Chocolate- Chocolates are always tied up with making one feel happy and energetic. Just make sure you choose the healthier ones-- dark chocolates.
• Tea- Tea, especially dark tea can help lower stress levels according to studies.
• Red wine- Drinking a little wine at night will help you relax and make you sleep well. The major benefit of this is that it lowers your blood pressure, so there's no way you'll be stressed.
• Milk- A warm milk before going to bed eases all the tension making you fall asleep peacefully. Containing calcium, it can also remove muscle pain caused by tension.
• Coffee- Most people feel relaxed when they sip a cup of coffee while there are those who experience the other way around. Still, drinking coffee in general is still considered as one of the best ways for stress management. Just don't drink them after 2 o'clock in the afternoon or you might have a hard time sleeping at night.
• Sweets- The sugar in sweets like cakes and other kinds of dessert helps pump our blood making us active. Just don't eat too much of this or having diabetes will only add to your worry.
• Fruits and vegetables- These are packed with lots of vitamins and nutrients that you need for your body. Having them in your meal everyday will reduce stress.
• Water- Water is the best stress therapy as it flushes away toxins and other unwanted chemicals that induces stress. Having a clean body gives you a lighter feeling.
Our own comfort foods like ice cream, sweets or perhaps
meat and softdrinks can lighten our moods but remember that this will be only temporary. Most of our cravings are the unhealthier ones so it's still important to choose healthy foods. When you're feeling down, just grab any of the above-mentioned foods or better make them a part of your diet.
Others may say it's just it's all in the mind, meaning one feels better after having eaten a banana for example because they were told that it is a stress-inducing food. Maybe somehow this could be true but if you keep in mind the saying "you are what you eat" , then you got ones of the best stress management strategies.
