GM�s new Cadillac XLR plugin and You

In the previous article, �How General Motors Views Customers�, I showed you that GM is still doing everything it can the old way and trying to maximize profits and I pointed you to a great commentary on that.

The editor at that site has posted a new article that discusses the newly released Cadillac XLR plugin, and provides more evidence of how GM views the customer which can be both the car purchaser and the mechanic. Main stream journalists have compared this new Cadillac to the Tesla Model S, this is most likely at GM�s suggestion.

If you are considering buying an Electric Vehicle or a hybrid vehicle, you should take a few minutes and read up on the info. You might even be surprised to know that General Motors produced an Electric Vehicle back in 1997 called the EV1.

The first edition EV1, which was a two seat vehicle, had a decent range using standard lead acid car batteries, but when GM moved it to NiMH batteries it improved considerably. The EV1 was only leased to the end user, and the stated reasoning was to study the car for possible future versions.

Considering that General Motors has been building cars for over 100 years and Tesla is what could be termed a �start up�, which makes the better choice for you based on quality, performance, safety, range and financially?

The Cadillac is a well known brand, and historically it has been known to be a decent car, however they moved into SUVs and this has hurt the brand in many purists eyes.

Tesla sought to be an Electric Vehicle company from the start and was not interested in cars like hybrids.

Tesla has two problems currently. First they have so much demand for their cars that they can�t get enough battery packs so demand is currently outstripping supply. To overcome this problem, Tesla in co-operation with Panasonic, their battery supplier, is going to build a new battery factory that can supply their needs as well as other customers. Currently Tesla sells some components to Daimler (Mercedes Benz) for use in their �Smart Car� brand.

The second problem is their business model. They want to sell their cars direct from showrooms owned by the factory direct to the consumer. This is causing many car dealer association members worry and the associations are challenging this model in several states.

FYI, Tesla has its own service facilities and they believe so much in the electric concept, that all the car lifts or hoists in the service centers are battery operated.
