There are a few companies that would put up openings for internet-based data entry jobs on their own website or seek the help of the US government through their website, usajobs.gov.

However, you should take great care in choosing from online data entry jobs. There have been cases where people were scammed by advertisements for data entry jobs. It's hard to tell the difference between real and fake jobs, but here are a few ways of doing so.

First, you should only go through legitimate online job postings, like those on Odesk, Freelancer, and usajobs.gov. These websites are known for having their own ways of checking for the legitimacy of a job.

Second, if the rate is too good to be true, it probably is. Most employment for this job don't pay that well, for the simple reason that it's an easy job. You do it at home and at your leisure. This is why most online data entry jobs are made for freelancers.

Third, if there's no way to contact the employer other than the ad, check with other sources, i.e. other people who might have taken a job from the same employer, and ask them if the offer is legitimate. Though there are legitimate employers who actually pay for what you do yet prefer to stay anonymous, most employers choose to give out contact details in their job postings. Be warned: scammers do the same and, at times, can sound more convincing that legitimate employers so take note of feedback from other freelancers.

Online data entry jobs can be done by anyone, and can be asked for by any company. Just be sure to pick the ones that are legitimate, and make sure that whatever job you take, you do so with the intent to see it through.
