Have you selected the right color for your paracord? If you have chosen the color black, then that's good! But do you know which type of material that item should be manufactured from? If not, then here are the three types of black paracord that you can choose.
Hemp black paracord
This paracord, which is also known as a manila paracord or a sisal paracord, is created from the abaca plant that is commonly found in the Philippines. It is water absorbent because of its natural fibers. It is good for creating obstacle courses, rail ropes, and rope ladders. This type of paracord is environmental-friendly because it is biodegradable. However, it can easily snap if it is stretched too much and it can shrink when it is wet.
Polypropylene black paracord
Being generally known as a ski rope or a swimming pool rope, this cheap paracord can float on water because of its light weight. It keeps its weight to a minimum by trapping small amounts of water in between its fibers. It is ideal for people who do not want their paracords to be dragged into their boat's propellers. A polypropylene paracord that is made into a traditional-looking rope can appeal to any traditional boat enthusiast.
Although a polypropylene black paracord can resist acids, water, mildews, and oils, it does not have great tensile strength. It can become brittle and weak immediately if it is exposed to sunlight for too long. When you create frictional heat with this type of paracord, it can be destroyed. It can also melt in areas that have low temperature. Because the polypropylene paracord is stiff and slippery, it can slip out of knots when it comes undone.
Cotton black paracord
A paracord created from cotton has the least tensile strength compared to other paracord types. It is also susceptible to fiber breakage when it is exposed to mildew. But despite having those disadvantages, it can withstand prolonged sun exposure. It is extremely comfortable to handle because of its softness. Unlike other paracords, it does not get affected by heat.
Polyethylene black paracord
This kind of paracord has similar fibers as the polypropylene paracord. However, the polyethylene paracord is not water absorbent and it can resist chemicals. It usually has a small diameter, which is good for making fishing nets.
Nylon black paracord
As a cheap paracord that has shock absorbency, it can go back to its original shape after being stretched many times. It is resistant to chemicals, abrasions, insects, fungi, molds, and ultraviolet rays. It can usually be exposed to areas that have a maximum temperature of 99 degrees Celsius. Places that have a minimum temperature of 70 degrees Celsius are also good for this type of paracord.
The downside of the nylon paracord is that it can lose its tensile strength when it becomes wet. It also has a tendency to be stinky.
Whatever your decision will be, there is no right or wrong choice because it will depend on your preferences. So what are you waiting for? Go ahead and buy a black paracord for yourself!
