An individual who fishes can be generally categorized into three types. The first type is the one who sells fishes. The second type is the one who eats fishes to survive. The last type is the one who catches fishes as a sport.
If you belong to one of these classifications and you only have a 550 paracord, do not worry! You can use that thing to make a trotline and a gill net.
How to make a trotline
-Gather a 550 paracord, a fishing hook, a rock, and five fishing swivels. Make sure that the size of the fishing hook is right for the kind of fish that you want to capture.
-Cut the 550 paracord to access the inner strands. Then remove the inner strands that you will use to make a trotline.
-Burn the ends of the 550 paracord with a lighter.
-Slide five fishing swivels through the 550 paracord.
-Ensure that the five swivels are 3 feet apart. To keep them in place, tie an overhand knot on each side of the swivel.
-Begin making your drop line by cutting a 24-inch piece of inner strand that you have removed. Use an overhand knot to tie one end of the 24-inch inner strand to its other end. Be sure to singe the ends of the inner strand.
-Thread the fishing hook through the drop line that you just tied off. After that, pass the knotted end of the drop line through a loop until the fishing hook is secured.
-Fasten the drop line to one of the swivels. You can do that by tying the knotted end of the drop line through a loop. Slide the knotted end of the drop line through the swivel then pass the fishing hook through the loop.
-Tie one end of the trotline to a rock and the other end to a large tree.
How to make a gill net
-Remove the inner strands from the 550 paracord after cutting it open.
-Tie one end of the 550 paracord to a large tree and the other end to another big tree.
-Fold the inner strand at its middle before making a loop. Then pull the body of the inner strand through its loop in a girth hitch knot. You must do the same procedure with other inner strands. Make sure that each inner strand is an inch apart.
-Tie the first inner strand to the second inner strand with a standard overhand knot. You should also do a similar procedure with the third inner strand to the fourth inner strand, the fifth inner strand to the sixth inner strand, and so on. Ensure that you make the right holes out of the inner strands according to the type of fish that you want to catch.
-Stop making the gill net when you are satisfied with its size or when you run out of inner strands.
Why buy a trotline and a gill net when you can make those things out of a 550 paracord, right? Be sure that trotlines are legal in the state that you live in before catching a fish.
