Feeling intense emotions, oftentimes, is something one can avoid. The same couldn't be said if it's the actual place he lives in where these intense emotions regularly take place.
While moving out of a messy home may not be an option for many (given the current state of the economy), there are many ways to somehow manage these intense feelings at home – regardless if it's fighting or controlling anxiety, letting go of hate, or even finding one's way to self improvement.
Assuming that one still lives with his family, having a discussion is usually the best and simplest way to go about in controlling anxiety. There's nothing that a good talk cannot fix, let alone doing it in a more intimate and familiar setting. If there's a specific palpable thing that's causing the stress, i.e. finances, poor ventilation, or loudly played speakers in the living room, then one may be able to compromise. Just as long as everyone conforms to the decision, then all is well.
If it's something a little more personal (like people being a little too negative all the time, or fighting parents) then the discussion might need a little more pushing, defending, and convincing. It's not easy controlling anxiety after being reprimanded about his way of doing things, but this is one thing that has to be done for the benefit of everyone staying at home.
If talking to the family members aggravates the problem, then it might be a smarter move to just go out and spend some time alone. Taking your mind off things is sometimes a much better way of controlling anxiety and anger than letting it all off towards a specific family member. Re-channel the anger into potential activities that are more worthwhile like shopping, going to the arcades, or even having a message. Even calling a close friend and ranting to him might even do the trick.
Keep in mind, however, that trying to forget the problem for a while is a good thing, escaping from it is definitely a no-no. The intent of this practice is to clear not just your head of all the thoughts, but also those of the people who are at home.
After taking a break, it is critical for the problem to be solved as soon as possible. Though coming up with a solution doesn't guarantee that the problem won't occur again in the future, coming up with an agreement is one step closer to conformity. Prepare not just one, but several feasible solutions for controlling anxiety and other strong emotions, making sure that each proposition benefits all involved members. A member or two may even compromise, but then this would lead back to how the problem exists in the first place. Strictly speaking, everyone should benefit from the solution.
Thought most of the family issues are not as intense as the above solutions would imply, it is still very important to at least know the problem and have some solutions for it. No one, after all, wants to fight with the very people who serve as constants in their lives.
