1. Essential oils are not at all oils. Maybe you are thinking, how come it is called oil when in fact it is not an oil, the answer lies in its . They think that it will be just like wasting money to study anything that cannot be patented. 4. A lot of plants are needed to extract essential oils. And in some instances, it is not just plenty but an extremely large number. Like in the case of extracting Bulgarian rose oil, it takes approximately 4,000 pounds of Bulgarian roses to produce│extract just 1 pound of its essential oil.
5. These oils are very concentrated that most of them are harmful when used undiluted. It can irritate the skin if it is not used other so called "real" oils such as waxes and butter and other diluting mediums│substances like alcohols. So, next time you use these oils, be sure that it is diluted or you may end up in the hospital because of some skin irritations.
6. Never drink│take internally essential oils. This is a general principle regarding the use of any of these oils. Although some oils are added to some products like toothpaste, it is a principle that it can only be used externally. Some oils like eucalyptus and wintergreen are toxic when swallowed.
7. Last but not the least, here's a tip for testing the purity of any essential oils, just have a construction paper and drop a single drop of it into the paper. When there is a ring formed, it is not pure, maybe it is diluted. But these tests do not work on certain oils like patchouli and myrrh.
