As good parents, perhaps one of your best dreams is to let go of the diapers and be free from heavy cleaning of your child's dirty jobs . Although you still have to clean small amounts of dirty things, it sure feels good to be free of bowel obligations regarding your little one. However, there are confusing parts of growing up that even parents get baffled about. Potty regression is one of them.

Potty regression happens when your potty-trained child suddenly had bowel accidents again. There are several instances why this happen, and the number one rule is, don't get angry.

Figure out first if the child does experience potty regression. There are times that your child will have bowel accidents but they don't really experience the regression. Although it is perfectly normal to have some kids with potty regression, there are certain reasons why they do happen.

If your little one has an accident, don't overreact. This will only make your child tense , and that may lead to even bigger problems in the future. Even if you get disappointed because you had to go back to using diapers and cleaning your child's back side, you should always stay collected and let your child know it is ok, even though it's not. When you check your little one and he doesn't have poop and he's dry, clap and kiss him. Inform him that he had done a great job. This will motivate him back into his potty training. On the other hand, if you check your child discovered he had a bowel accident, just remain calm and tell him to come with you and sit on the potty. In a way or another, potty regression is an event that lets the parents extend their composure and lets the children know how patient their parents are. You should let your children feel that they are being encouraged and not punished for making mistakes. As a parent, it is your duty to lead your child to his own success, and not instill fear in him.

Now that you've rid your child of anxiety, the next step is to find the cause of the potty regression. Activities new to your children such as moving or going to school may be causes of potty regression. Some children may even have toilet accidents when the family welcomes a new sibling. If the whole family then settles after the event, chances are your little one will return to his potty-trained routines.

There are cases when your child plays a lot and enjoys a lot. When this happens, he forgets the world around him and everything just goes out of order, including bowel movement. To avoid potty regression due to this reason, just keep on reminding him that he's a "big boy" now and it's normal to forget potty activities, but make sure not to do them again. Before doing any activity, such as before going to bed, or leaving the house, remind him of his potty first.

To avoid potty regression, it is a good idea to give your child a few rewards every time he goes to his potty without "accidents". This way it will motivate him to always do it right in order to receive more rewards.
