For some this might be true. Those that attempt to do this typically fail more times than not. How do you know which camp you will belong to? You will probably not make any money unless you work hard at positioning the eBook through promotions done online. Your eBook must have a website that is designed to promote it. Do you have other websites? Perhaps a blog or two? Put advertisements on these to your eBook. Every reputable book sold on the Internet has a website. Your website, if it has a presence on the Internet, adds a believability factor for the buyer. There should be more than just a sales letter on this site. An author page should be visible. You also need reader reviews on the website as well.
