Article Category: Family Concerns
Author Name: L.A. Capdevila
Do you know where you are going? My name is L.A. Capdevila, ask me what I know about life, family, business and network marketing. Years ago when I first started traveling around the world, I would get so excited when an invitation to visit some part of the world, that I barely looked on the map to see where it was that I was going. I would have my secretary book a flight to my destination and off I went, sometimes for a month at a time. Life is like that for most of us, we get excited about the possibility of marriage, starting a family or retirement, but we do not take the time examine the details of how we are going to getting there.
One time many years ago an invitation came asking me to be the main speaker at a gathering of churches in a place called the Mosquito Coast in Honduras. I immediately asked my secretary to book my fight and when the time came she put the airplane ticket in my hands and wished me the best.
I arrived on a jet airliner to Tegucigalpa Honduras; from there I was put on a smaller airplane to a place called San Pedro Sula. In a couple of hours I boarded another plane en route to another place called La Ceiba. To my surprise I ended up getting on a four passenger Cessna landing in a cow pasture in a place called Palacio.
Our plane buzzed the cow pasture to get the cows out of the way, and it landed right next to what I can best describe as a Tiki Hut. I was the only passenger on the plane and no one else was there to leave on the outgoing flight. The pilot asked me if I was going to stay being that there was no one there to greet me. He told me that I had ten minutes to decide whether I was staying or going because the sun was going down and he could not leave if it got too dark because the cows in the pasture.
I decided to stay even though my luggage had stayed behind at La Cieba, all I had was my briefcase in my possession. The pilot told me that he thought that the nearest village was in a certain direction even though when he said, that he thought it did not sound to convincing.
The small airplane left and I headed in the direction the pilot told me to go. As I walked through the woods with my brief case in my hand, I knew that I better find that village quick because it was already dusks and it was getting dark fast. As I walked I thought to myself "Louis what are you doing? You did not pay attention to the details and now look where you are at!
By the grace of God I saw what seem to me to be a pin of light and I followed it and ran straight into the village. I introduce myself to several villagers and told them who I was and what my purpose for being there. Immediately the village drunker appeared and apologized for not being there to greet me.
I was put on a small boat and we headed up stream toward the place that I was supposed to minister. When we arrived, there where about eight hundred people gathered from all the surrounding villages. I met the organizer of the event and he introduced me to all the pastors that were in attendance.
I preached and ministered for about two hours and when I had finished I asked for cold water, plenty of it. That night I slept in the pastor's home or what can be bettered described as a hut. That morning I remember being wakened up by a roaster who was tapping on my neck. At 8 in the morning there were hundreds of folks sitting under a tent waiting for the service to start.
I ministered for two and a half hours that morning and when I finish I asked for a glass of water for I was extremely thirty. When they brought me the water, it was a bit cloudy and I told them that I wanted the same water that I had had the night before. They informed me that the water that was before me was the same as the night before, but because it was dark I was not able to discern that it was cloudy. I had no choice but to drink that water or risk the chance of becoming dehydrated.
After the afternoon session I was told by the organizers that this would be the appropriate time to take a bath. They told me to get my shorts and meet them at the lagoon. I protested and told them that I would not be taken a bath at the lagoon because on my way up to the meeting via a boat the night before, every time the drunkard pointed his flash light into the water I saw crocodiles in the water. We agreed that I would take a swim on the ocean and when I finish they would have a five gallon pale of fresh water from the lagoon and I would use that water to finish my bath.
One afternoon as I was wading on the water I saw from far away what I thought to be a battalion of soldiers marching by the seashore. As their path met mine, they looked at me in wading in the waters and I looked at them saying to myself "where in the world am I at?" I could not believe what I was witnessing. As soon as they marched pass me, I ran out of the water showered myself with the fresh water, got dress and ran to the village to ask where the hell was I?
They immediate explain to me that in the direction that the soldiers were marching was the area where the rebels known as the Contras were located. They said told me that we were smacked in the middle of a rebel zone and also there were these lizards that would stand up and chase you. Two days later I was on a plane to Guatemala City Guatemala Central America.
The point of this story is that we all travel through life as if we had no known direction. Many of us who are reading this article got married but have no direction for that marriage, we have kids and we have not yet discovered what their temperaments or motivational gifts are. We know we want to be rich and wealthy but we do not know how.
We are traveling in this life as if we are suspended by air waiting to see what comes next; we have no plans or a vehicle to take us where we really want to go. You don't have to live your life as if "que sera, sera", what will be will be. You can take charge of your life by first submitting to the will of God and then apply the principles of life that have been given to us, so that we may prosper. If not you may end up in a divorce, with a bunch of un happy kids and a retirement income that is less than what you are now making and what you are now making is not enough. So ask me what I know about life, family, business and network marketing and I would tell you that I know enough to be able to help some of you.
