What do I know about life, family, business and network marketing? Did I mention that I have walked on water? A few years ago I lost several hundreds of thousands of dollars on an investment that I had made with some friends. For the next few months I struggle to pay the bills at home, I max out my credit cards in the battle to survive this tragedy. I never told my father of my lost, in fear that he would kill me.
At the time of this catastrophe I was planting churches in Central and South America, I got this impression that God wanted me in Ecuador. I told the Lord in an audible prayer "Lord if you want me in Ecuador, you have to send me the money. The next day a check arrived in the mail, intended for the mission field as per the sender's request. It was just enough for two round tickets, one for my assistant and the other for me. Another person pledged to put in my missions traveling account several thousands of dollars to cover the rest of the expenses of the trip.
I can tell you all kinds of stories of being out in remote places without communication to the outside world. After many years of doing this, I learn that it is safer to stay in a secured hotel and have the leaders and associates come to you, instead of exposing yourself to the dangers of the country you are traveling. Even though this does not apply to every country I'll traveled.
This trip to Ecuador was going to be an intense eight days of ministry, non-stop in every sense of the word. When I arrived the first five days I was extremely busy and I had not check the bank account to see if the funds to cover the hotel and dining had been deposited. I was leaving on the morning of the eighth day. On day five, six and day seven I called the bank and no funds had been deposited. On day seven in the evening I checked the account no funds were there, I called the front desk and asked how much was my bill? The bill was estimated to be around one thousand eight hundred dollars.
On the eight day when I woke up, I immediately checked the bank account and there were no monies. When my assistant woke up, the first words that came out of his mouth were "Apostle I got very little sleep last night, I have this premonition that something bad is going to happen." I had not told my assistant of the predicament I was in, so when I heard him say those words, I said to myself if he knew what is getting ready to happen.
I waited to ten in the morning and I checked the account again, it remained the same. What I did next was equivalent to walking on water. I called down stairs and asked for the bellman to come get our bags. Short note here, I could have called my dad and he would have given me the funds, but I decided to walk on water. The next few minutes was like walking on water. The bellman took our bags and my assistant and I joined him in the elevator. In the elevator God speaks to my heart and instructs me to use the three hundred dollar max credit card that was in my wallet. I argue and remind him in silence that the bill is one thousand eight hundred dollars and the credit card only had three hundred.
When the elevator door opens and we step out, and to my surprise eight men rush to me and greeted me with lots of love and emotions. These were eight of the pastors that I had ministered in there churches and they had decided to come to the hotel and see me off in appreciation of my service to their ministries. Now I am thinking as I am walking on water, gosh now I am going to have witnesses of what is about to take place. I was going to be put to shame in front of all these people.
I told them to wait while I supposedly went to pay the bill, but instead of them waiting for me where they were at, they followed me to the front desk. The clerk asks me "Reverend how do you want to pay for the bill?" I had no choice then to take my only credit card I had left 'the three hundred max card" and give it to her. Once I gave her the card she tells me that she has to confirm the credit availability and that she would be right back.
It was too late for me to do anything else as the clerk turned her back on me and walked away. As I stood there not walking on water but surely standing on walk, I thought about the different scenarios that could play out in front of all the witnesses that were waiting to see me off. Suddenly the clerk appears from the back and makes her way to me; I looked at her face to try to discern what the results were. To my surprise she ask me to sign the receipt, if she only knew what I had gone through to be standing in front of her like if I had no problem in the world.
I immediately signed the receipt and in a rush I said my good byes to everyone. As I got into the taxi I was relieved and grateful to God for having allowed me to walk on water. In this life we all get plenty opportunities to walk on water, but like the other 11 disciples who got the opportunity but never did because they decided to stay in the boat. We often get that special chance but fear grips our soul and we back off.
In this life we must take the risk of walking on water even though we may sink as Peter did, knowing that God is there to help us and work everything for good. I have seen many men and women fail while trying, but I have also seen many of them get up and succeed. If those who failed would have gotten up they would have succeeded also. Failure is part of the journey to having a successful anything. Therefore keep your eyes out for your next opportunity to walk on water.
