My father and mother along with my three brothers and I were traveling on a Tampa road heading northbound when my father's 1968 Pontiac Catalina came to a stop at a red light. My dad blurts out to the family as he points to a big building and declares "one day we are going to have a big restaurant that will serve thousands," we all look at each other not knowing what to make of this declaration.
The truth is we all have desires and dreams of owning our own business or having a successful career; it is part of our human nature or better said divine nature. You can travel all over the world and ask these questions and you will get the same answers, no matter what the culture or religion is. Ask these questions and see if you do not get the same answer. Do you want to be ugly or presentable? Do you want to lose or win? Do you want to be poor or prosperous? Do you want to die or live? Do you want to be sick or have divine health? Do you want to be homeless or have a home? It's not a coincidence that all of us throughout the world have all these things and much more in common.
Therefore if your desire is to open your own business it's a God given mandate, so that you may have a better life and be able to provide for your family in an enjoyable manner. Doing what you enjoy most is very healthy, provided you are having success in the process. When you are having success you are inspired and strengthened to be able to put in long hours; and not only that, success will also give you the inner force to give up what is necessary in order to accomplish the end result, which is a better life. It is only when you are not having success or you are doing something that you do not enjoy, that burnout set's in and cause you to lose the joy of life. Not having success in what you are doing always sucks the life out of everything around you and brings the opposite emotion that success brings.
Burnout does not come from working too hard and putting long hours, but burnout comes only when you are failing at what you are doing. While you are having success, there is almost nothing you cannot do and there is no amount of time you are not willing to put in. Most Americans spend most of their lives doing something they do not like and even hate; the goal for most is to put in 40 years and retire then go on to enjoy life. But in reality you can enjoy the road to retirement and then enjoy it with greater pleasure when you finally retire.
Wanting to start your own business is a divine mandate that will lead you to great satisfaction and happiness for years to come. So having success at what you want to do is important and very necessary, therefore you must gain as much wisdom and knowledge as you can so that you can minimize the chance of failure. What to do? When to do it? and Where to do it?, is vital to your success. That is why I believe this book can be a blessing to you and your next endeavor, as you read its pages our life experiences will be poured into your life and all the years of wisdom that we have gained will be revealed to you. This book is not intended to be a book of research, but a book that will give you insights to what we have done or not done and become very successful.
I want to give a word of caution to those couples or individuals that have a desire to open their own business. Do not open a certain type of business just because someone else is having success in it. Why not? Because you may not have that same passion or grace to do what they are doing and it may cause you to fail. When you are considering getting into business, make sure that it is in the area that you have a passion and grace to do. Just because someone else is having success does not mean that you will and I can't guarantee you success just because you are reading this book. But if you check your motives and there is passion for what you are wanting to do then, there is a chance that you may be successful.
Also, if money is your only motivation to get into business, then you run the risk that when your business runs into a down cycle, you may quit and give up on your dreams because there was no passion and emotion to get you past the rough times. The desire to become financially successful has to go hand in hand with passion and grace, so that success will be given an opportunity to flourish.
