Did getting some figures ever cross your mind? If not then this article should give you some good ideas. This article also gives you a better perspective about what is burial expense and what it covers.
So what is burial expense? Burial costs vary on a large scale depending on the chosen memorial service, other merchandise involved and specific arrangements. Here are some some of the costs involved when planning a burial. Note that whatever final arrangements made, you will have to pay for the following basics:
Transportation from the funeral service site all the way to the final burial site,
- The casket to contain the body of the deceased, and
- The basic funeral home services (including the staff involved).
- Transportation
With local death, funeral services offer various transportation packages to their clients. In other situations, transportation can be arranged to accommodate the remains all the way to the funeral home.
In the case of an out-of-town/state death, funeral services are also known to coordinate with other fellow services regarding transportation arrangements. Location always affects the transportation costs for both settings. Since air transportation is commonly used in out-of-state deaths, departure and arrival airports also affect the transportation costs.
The Casket
Casket quality depends on the wishes of the deceased, granting that he/she purchased a burial expense insurance policy (which also indicated casket type) ahead of time or of his/her family's wishes. Casket fees, which also include some other basic services, are always fixed. The following price range could serve as your starting point: $200 to $2,200 for less expensive caskets, and $2,995 to $65,000 for the more expensive caskets. Cheaper vaults may cost you only $700 to $1,200, while the more expensive ones could range somewhere from $1,800 to $9,890.
The Basic Funeral Services
It is the duty of the funeral director (including some staff) to perform the basic funeral services, which can range from $1,000 to $1,775. Immediate burial price rates may require you to invest from $725 to $2,635. Direct cremation rates ranges from $1,000 to $2,255. Receiving remains from other funeral homes would cost clients $440 to $2,040, while forwarding them to another funeral home would cost $780 to $2,520.
Where the law calls for the basic funeral expenses for the remains, multiple "elective" costs can be added as needed. The funeral service's final cost generally reflects the deceased's final wishes. Here are some sound estimates of the "other" additional costs involved: embalming - from $400 to $525, "outer" burial containers that include vaults ($750 to $1,100) and liners ($285 to $525). Many cemeteries are known to do away with using outer containers aside from the casket into the final resting place.
Note that under law, these funeral services are required to show their clients with the complete container price list. Ask for one. And if you happen to have problems on what container to purchase, you could always start with inspecting the cheaper ones and working your way to the more expensive ones. Note that the above figures border around various sources. Use them to guide your way. Now you have a good idea of what is burial expense. Good Luck!
