If you did not have braces when you were younger, you can still have them now that you have already grown up. Braces can still correct your bad bites or crooked teeth even if the surrounding bones of your teeth are no longer as flexible as when you were in your teenage years.
There are actually different types of braces you can choose from depending on your tooth color or severity of your orthodontic problem. Also, you may choose a type of braces depending on the cost as well as how obvious they would appear in your mouth.
Metal braces are the most common and least expensive type. They are typically made of stainless steel and glued to the front section of the teeth. Orthodontists recommend and regard these braces the best and strongest type for correcting bad bites and straightening crooked teeth.
Metal braces have tiny rubber elastic bands called ligature bands that hold the wire in place. These bands come in different colors, so you can customize your braces. However, if you are allergic to metal, you can opt for titanium braces instead.
Ceramic braces are also ideal. They are made of composite materials, which is why they are very strong and stain resistant. Just take note that if you often smoke cigarettes or drink coffee and red wine, you may notice a slight discoloration.
Nonetheless, they are still good choices even though they are a bit expensive because they can blend well with your teeth.
Some ceramic braces use tiny elastic ties to keep the wire in place while others have a channel that keeps the wire positioned properly. This type of bracket is known as self-ligating. If you choose ceramic braces, you can choose from clear, white, and colored bands.
If you want the braces to be barely noticeable whenever you smile or speak, you should go for the white or clear bands. Clear and white bands generally blend in better with the teeth.
Then again, if you really feel awkward with braces on, you can choose invisible braces. They are basically removable appliances that you can put inside your mouth and remove when you are eating. Your orthodontist will give you new invisible braces every couple of weeks to correct your teeth.
With braces, you can finally have straight teeth and a more beautiful smile. It is never too late to fix your teeth. You should not think that teenagers are the only ones who can have braces. If you feel embarrassed to be seen with braces, you can always opt for the less obvious types.
