Budda, also referred to as Buddha, the Buddha, Gautama Buddha, Siddhartha Gautama, Shakyamuni, was a sage whose teachings served as the foundation for Buddhism. One of his names, Buddha, means "the enlightened one" or "the awaken one".

Budda serves as the primary figure in Buddhism. Budda's date of birth and date of death are uncertain. However, historians believe that he was born around 563 BCE in Lumbini, Nepal. The day of Budda's birth is celebrated in many Buddhist countries. In India, Budda's birthday is considered a holiday that is referred to as "Buddha Poornima" in India because people believe that Budda was born on a full moon. According to many biographies, Buddha came from a royal Hindu family. His mother and father were monarchs. His mother died shortly after giving birth to him; as a result, his aunt raised him. His father did his best to shield him from religion and human suffer. His father believed that it would make Budda a better king. Nevertheless,

Budda eventually discover both and the rest is history. During a quest he took that was motivated by his desire to explore the human condition, he discovered and learned about the dominate religions of the era. As well, he encountered people who suffered from illnesses and poverty. This had a profound effect on Budda that resonates in his teachings.

Historians believe that Budda died between 483 BCE and 400 BCE in India. Many collections of Budda's teachings were passed down through oral tradition. About 400 years after his death, his followers transcribed his teachings. These transcriptions have survived to this very day. When all is said and done, Budda is a very interesting man to say the least. His popularity has no bounds; he is a well-known historical and religious figure. Despite his death, his legacy continues to live on through his powerful, inspirational teachings and philosophy. Budda is a truly one of a kind figure that has stood the test of time.
