How to Get in Touch with a Credit Counselor

The same is true if you are obligated to do so as a requirement for filing i.e. bankruptcy. Don t forget to verify with the entity that the same is in fact recognized by the state in which you are filing. If you are filing or have a co-borrower, the same must also be registered as a listener, and given the appropriate certificate.

If you are doing this in order to comply with a specific forebearance application or any relevant application with a bank or lender; better inquire with the same. Admit it or not, some lenders directly or indirectly favour a specific credit counselor or counseling firm.

How is Counseling Done?

You can ask your lender for list of accredited counselors. You can also go online to search for the same list. As a general rule, you can conduct the session/s on the phone, online or in person. The number of sessions and total hours spent depends on the type of filing or interest of the consumer.
