If you're new to the whole internet thing and you want to know what a blog is.
by Tim Meyers | on June 11, 2013
Then I'm going to explain it for you in simple terms, so that anyone can understand what a blog is.
To put it simply a blog is pretty much just a web site. And if you don't even know what a website is, it's pretty much any page that you see on the internet. So the page you are taken to when you type an address at the top of your web browser is a website.
A blog can be also be called a website, because it is. The difference is a blog is a website where a person or a group of people write down their stories, information, reviews or opinions etc. And you'll find most blogs are updated regularly with new information or articles. They can include pictures an videos as well.
Each article is called a post. Some blogs will have a static front page, which means that the first page you come to every time you visit that blog will be the same. But a lot of blogs use their current blog posts as their front page. The older blogs aren't lost though, they all get stored on that page.
Most blog sites will have a bunch of different things that you can click on down the side of their posts. And there is usually a section where you can go back and look at their older posts. They are usually in categories so you can find what you're looking for easier.
As well as previous posts, most blogs will have some advertising down the side, underneath or on top of their posts. This is how many people make money from blogging. This is a legitament and very effective way to sell a product or service. They blog about a certain subject that's relevant to what they're selling, so that their readers are getting the information they are searching for. And while they are there they might decide to buy from the person who created the blog.
Once you get more skilled with writing your blogs and promoting them, they will start to rank higher on the search engines. This means that more people will see them when they type specific words into search engines like google, yahoo and bing. So if you are using your blog to promote a product or service, it's like free advertising.
There is no need to use your blog to create income if you don't want to.
You can simply write about whatever you like, people can also leave comments at the bottom of your posts in the comment section. And you can reply to their comments in the same section, it then becomes a conversation between reader and writer.
There's many different ways you can get a blog. Some are free, some you pay for. If you're not real confident or experienced with computers or the internet then you might want to get a paid one. So that you get more help and support, or training on how to do things. You can even get blogs that are already set up for you, so you can just get in and start writing your posts straight away.
The site you are on now is my blog. I didn't know what a blog was when I first started online, but I found empower network. And joined up with them, for $25/month I got this blog. All the training and support I needed to get started the right way. And if you want to earn money for your blogs, they cater for this as well. You get everything you need to get started building your very own online business.
The blog you get when you sign up with empower looks pretty similar to this one. But with the training they've provided, I've tweaked and personalised mine a bit with my own photos etc. I've even taken this training and started my own personal blog, just for fun. And although I did it for free, I wouldn't have been able to do it without the knowledge I got from the training in empower network.
And remember if you're new to this, you're not going to be perfect at it straight out of the box. So just get yourself out there and you'll learn as you go. Because the best way to learn is hands on experience, you can read every book out there on how to blog. But until you go out and actually start doing it, you wont be improving your skills.
Hope I answered all your questions and taught you something you didn't already know about blog.
