While energy boost drinks can increase mental alertness and body performance, there are rumors that consuming energy drinks in combination with alcohol could reduce the feeling of intoxication, hence it may lead to too much intake of alcohol. Some say that energy drinks in alcohol increases the cases of DUI among teenagers.
There are also rumors that combining alcohol with energy drinks has health risks that could be fatal. For one, there are stories about how alcohol and energy drink intake could increase the risk of developing heart ailments and other diseases. Media and other health organizations also propagated this damaging image.
However, with these rumors, no single evidence has been found. In a literature search published in the 2012 issue of the International Journal of General Medicine, researchers JC Verster, C Aufrihct and C Alford discovered that there is little evidence that energy drinks have significant influence on alcohol intake. The study also found out that there is no current evidence that energy drinks in alcohol affect the perception of intoxication.
However, there is no clinical evidence linking co-consumption of alcohol and energy drinks to cardiovascular effects and other diseases. Lastly, while there are surveys showing relations, there is no hard evidence that drinking energy drinks combined with alcohol may increase alcohol dependence.
Even though there are health reports that energy drinks could result to decreases awareness of being intoxicated and increased alcohol intake, the review of the current literature suggests that these reports are not backed up by hard scientific evidence. People with increased level of alcohol intoxication may suffer from alcohol dependence, and combining energy drinks may be tangled up in this lifestyle.
Certainly, consuming energy drinks in alcohol is a lifestyle choice, and there will be no harm in drinking these mixes if consumed moderately. Too much of the same things could spell danger. Just like any substance, too much consumption of alcohol combined with energy drinks could be risky.
Before you mix and consume alcohol and energy drinks, be sure you are of legal age. There are many ways to combine alcohol and energy drinks. Some bars even provide concoctions featuring varied energy drinks combines with alcoholic drinks such as Remy Martin, vodka, tequila, lemon lime soda, champagne, and many more. Some of them are also added with fruits and served on the rocks.
The Playboy Energy Drink can be served with moderate combinations of alcoholic drinks. For example, the "Girl Next Door" is a combination of Skyy cherry vodka and Playboy Energy drink served on the rocks. Meanwhile, "The Playmate" is a mixture of the energy drink and Bacardi Lemon served on the rocks. This drink recipe is noted for its gummy taste.
Another popular drink recipe is "The Mansion Royale" which is a half-shot of Amaretto di Sarono and a shot of Crown Royal mixed with the energy drink. You can add a cherry for garnishing, and serve in a highball with ice. Another drink recipe that you may like is the "Bunny Bomb" made with the energy drink and Jaegermeister.
