Jogging is a well loved form of exercise that helps boost your energy levels and mood. But sticking with your program day after day can be a challenge. You also have to avoid injuries, which can really slow down your progress. Here are some tips to help keep you healthy and motivated to keep jogging.

Finding a partner or a group to run with in one of the best ways to stay motivated. While there's nothing wrong with running alone, having a partner can be a great source of motivation. You are less likely to quit or give less than your best if you have a partner running with you. Be careful to not let conversation distract you, but it can be more enjoyable to talk to someone while you jog. It's best to focus on jogging and save the conversation for when you're finished! One way to keep running interesting is to run with a partner or group.

The best way to begin is to always start off with a slow pace, and then build up from that. Stay relaxed, don't make your stride too long and don't bounce too much. Pay attention to your gait, and keep your shoulders relaxed but not leaning too far ahead or behind. While you can pick up a little speed after you're warmed up, it's usually better to jog at a slow to medium speed. Unless you are a competitive runner, you can get all the health benefits and reduce the risk of injuries by jogging at a moderate pace rather than running at full speed. People usually tend to run faster when they first start out a jogging session, so be mindful about it and keep the pace slower, and your run will be better. Always avoid just stopping your jog from your normal pace to an immediate full stop because that can cause injury.

Before you walk or run, it's really important to warm-up and stretch, but also it is important to do a proper warming down after exercising. Try to avoid extremes such as high intensity running followed by a stop and then walking away - it makes a difference to cool/warm down. So a good rule of thumb is to start and end at a slow pace and you ease into the transition. Always stretch before running, and then do lighter stretching afterwards. After this, you can rest with your feet up, at a level above the heart, as this helps the heart return to a more normal load after the increased activity. Remember, if you want to get healthier by running, you have to make it a regular part of your life. Therefore, always ensure that you use your head when running or jogging so that you can keep away from many of the issues many joggers find themselves facing.
