Want to know that your subconscious is doing everything possible to help you succeed when setting goals? Chunking is all about finding you TRUE "WHY?" and I will expand on this later in the post.
For now, here's a bit of background.
What many don't realize (and really need to learn) is that, for the most part, your subconscious mind is calling the shots. It listens to what you tell it consciously and focuses on the things that you focus on.
I'll give you an example. If you've ever said (I've been guilty of this too) "I can't afford it" or "we don't have any money", you've given your subconscious a command...
The subconscious then proceeds to act upon that command and make sure you stay broke.
Yuk!
So it's time to focus on creating some brain food!
Although it can be hard at times we have to focus on what we want rather than what we don't want.
So as an alternative to saying "I'm broke", say "I haven't earning a million dollars yet this year, but I'm getting closer"... that's just one example. You obviously won't always be setting goals/ creating goals exclusively about money. But you should be focusing on your desired outcomes when setting goals.
Setting Goals
This is actually part three of my setting goals / goal planning series this week. If you haven't read my first two posts, please feel free to click here and revisit them.
This definitely won't be the last time I talk about goal setting but this will conclude this week's segment.
Setting Goals and chunking to Increase Success Rate
I realize this sounds weird... and no, you don't actually take a physical chunk out of your goal... lol
The act of chunking is to bring your motivation to a higher level.
What I mean by this is that if you thought that you had gotten into a new business opportunity to "make more money", you aren't completely correct.
Yes, making more money was important to you, but when setting goals to make money, we as humans all have a deeper motive.
Stick with me and I will explain.
For a single mother of two (Let's call her "Judy") who is just scrapping by to put food on the table and pay the rent, more money could mean a lot of different things. If she did something to "make more money", is that really the reason she did it? No! She did it because she wanted to take care of her kids. (once again, I'm just using money as an example)
Well the same idea applies to you when you're setting goals... but you can go much deeper than this. Let's stick to our previous example.
If I had asked Judy what more money would allow her to do, she might have said "give my kids better things"... going deeper she might even have said that she wanted to give her kids a better life. And if we kept going deeper she might say that she could spend more time with them and be there for her because she felt like her mother never was there for her...
See where I'm going with this?
The point is, once you've set your long term goals, you need to go back and chunk them up. This means bring them to a higher level and give them deeper meaning.
Your homework for setting goals
For each one of your long term goals, start with the goal you set and ask yourself "When I have this, what will it allow me to do that I can't already do?"
Do this about 7 times.
By the time you hit numbers 5, 6 and 7, you've likely struck the gold you were looking for. Those final few answers will be your "why"
You've likely heard people say "you need to discover your 'why'" in order to compel yourself to take action. Well this is exactly what chunking will do for you.
