Hitman Absolution Review
I can remember seeing the original Hitman games come out on the PS2 and being very impressed. Although I never actually owned any of the games, my best friend Rhys loved them – especially the classic Hitman 2...
When I heard that Hitman Absolution was being released I was very excited to buy it.
Luckily, I have a subscription to the Playstation Plus membership and Hitman Absolution
was actually included in it with my latest set of downloads.
My first impression of the game was that it was going to be excellent.
Even the opening scene before the game starts was amazing...
Hitman Absolution Trailers
Hitman Absolution definitely lived up to the trailers in terms of its gamepaly
and graphics. The game looks and feels brilliant. The background blends in and
works with the character and the weapon system feels smooth and polished.
The cover system in particular feels great. Seeing as this is a very much stealth based game, it is important to have a good cover system.
Unlike other stealth games in the past, Hitman Absolution does a great job at rewarding the player for playing the game properly...
Although, if you want to go around and just shoot everyone and not assassinate people you can but you get rewarded at the end of each level on how well you complete the missions. For example, if you get spotted by someone you loose a good amount of points, if you kill someone that wasn't contracted or kill innocents will loose even more points.
I very much liked this feature, at the start of each level of Hitman Absolution, your friends points will be displayed on the screen and the average score of your country and the world. Adding to the challenge making the player want to beat their friends scores.
The game-play feels very familiar, I have likened it to a mixture between the Batman games (one of my all time favorite games) and the Assassins Creed games, a pretty nice combination as both of those games are very good...
Hitman Absolution also does an excellent job on the difficulty settings.
The game on the lower difficulty settings has been pretty hard actually!
There are just too many games around that are too easily completed with
no real challenge. Hitman Absolution also have loads of in game challenges
such as killing you target in a particular way, unlocking all the outfits,
picking up all the weapons, things that will add to the playback value of the game.
The Future of Gaming
One thing that I have found over the past few years is that games now need to have
a compelling story for me to even bother with them...
I think that in the modern era of gaming, a cheesy story line isn't acceptable...
I just can't stand games that look good and have awful voice acting.
Probably the best example of that is Dead Island, the game itself was good
but I just couldn't bring myself to listen to the terrible Australian accents anymore!
This is why I'm exited to see games that clearly have a good story and are using
video games as a vessel to tell those stories. I like to think of video games as
something similar to a movie or a book, they are essentially the same thing.
Over the past year or so, the games I have really enjoyed are heavily story
based games such as Skyrim, Batman, Max Payne 3, Bioshock
and of course Hitman Absolution...
I would like to see less games but with much more compelling stories
and good voice over actors. If I want to play a game with no story,
I'd prefer to play an indie game that is still really cool and artistic.
This is something I really want game developers to work on in the future,
hopefully with this next generation of gaming consoles this will be something
that they focus on.
