For many people finding the right makeup blender sponge can be quite a trial. There are many products to choose from, but the branded ones are especially pricey. Some of these can go for as high as $19 per piece online. Many of the unbranded ones are more affordable of course, but a lot of people distrust drug store products thinking that these might actually do more harm than good.
So the question is: how do you get your hands on a quality makeup blender sponge without spending a lot of money? Here are a few things you ought to consider.
1. Latex versus latex-free.
One of the most important things that you should find out is whether or not you are allergic to latex products or not. There is a whole slew of makeup blender sponge products that are latex based, which are actually very budget friendly. Unfortunately, if you are allergic to latex, you might get a delayed skin reaction that can cause itching or a slight burning sensation on areas where you applied the sponge on. To avoid this, it would be better to choose foundation sponges that are latex-free.
It is very easy to know which products are latex-free. It should say so on the packaging. If it does not, then the sponge is definitely latex-based.
Both products yield the same results though.
2. Disposable versus non-disposable.
The truth is: these two products yield the same results as well. Its only a question of convenience versus budget.
If you buy a disposable makeup blender sponge, you can very quickly get rid of it after one or a couple of applications. There is no need to wash and dry these, and you don't have to worry about storing it in a clean container. These sponges usually come in very convenient sets of 20 pieces or more. These work great if you like using dramatic colors that may permanently stain its surface.
On the other hand, non-disposable foundation sponges are only 1% to 5% more expensive than its disposable counterpart. These usually come in singles or smaller sets of two's and three's. These come with their own container and would need regular cleaning and drying. On a plus note, these usually hardier and can last a long time, which is great if you are trying to save money.
3. Shaped versus block.
Some foundation sponges are irregularly shaped while other come in squares or rectangles. Which one works better?
Well, if you need to apply foundation on larger patches of skin, like the cheeks or the forehead or the neck area, block shaped sponges work the best. These hold a larger volume of foundation cream or liquid and can speed up the application process considerably.
Irregularly shaped sponges, usually with a pointy tip work best for nooks and crannies that are harder to reach, particularly around the eyes, the lips and the sides of the nose.
To get the best results, it is actually advisable to get both shaped and block spongers.
4. Branded versus unbranded.
Unbranded! This is especially true if you have a tight budget to work with. It is a consolation to know though, that using both branded and unbranded makeup blender sponge products yield the same results.
