What goals did you aim to achieve when you decided to launch this online employee survey tool?
Our goal was to give a voice to the team members and managers across the Diva brand. We wanted to know what the current issues were, what we were doing well and what we needed to improve. Are employee surveys really confidential? One of the greatest features of the system we use is the ability to set the survey as 'anonymous'. This allows people to truly voice their opinions without hesitation.
Did you meet your goals?
Yes, the system has been very useful for creating and launching various employee survey templates and gathering ideas and feedback. It is a quick an easy process to launch a survey meaning we can get feedback really quickly after an event.
What value do you feel the ability to gather information and feedback from your staff adds to your business?
The fact that we have the ability to quantify the answers is of great value to our team. This tool allows us to count the number of people, rate the answers and look for trends in the brand. What kind of information do you gather with these employee surveys? Our most recent survey was to gather information relating to the Christmas parties held in 6 different locations around Australia and New Zealand. We have also used surveys for somewhat unusual uses such as counting the number of display stands in each store.
Can you give an example of how the data gathered from an employee survey has been put to good use?
The marketing department recently conducted a display stand count using the survey system. They were able to identify which stores had no acrylic stands and which stores had too many of them and the teams were able to respond accordingly. We were able to save time and money in re-allocating the stands to the right stores.
How often do you conduct an employee survey?
We don't have a survey schedule currently. Our team creates surveys as per business needs and launch them through our online human resource software. Because it is such an easy process, if an issues arises which requires immediate feedback from the teams, we can create and launch a survey within 10 minutes.
Which specific departments of your business utilize this system the most?
Support Center Management uses the tool regularly. But the Retail Operations and Marketing departments are the biggest users of this tool.
How do you communicate to your team that a survey needs completing?
We do most of our communication through our weekly newsletter. We have found it the most effective tool within our organization. The team members will then look for the employee surveys online once they have been announced and launched. But our system will also notify employees when they log in that there is a new survey for them to complete.
How do you design your questions?
Multiple choice questions are useful to gather quick information and filter responses based on what you're looking for. However, in order to give our team members a voice, open ended questions are our best option.
What advice would you provide to other businesses looking to implement an online employee survey system?
Make sure you find a really user friendly survey system.
