Airsoft battles are more than just point and shoot games; they are complex clashes that combine strategy, team play and strength. Winning this type of battle is challenging, especially for first time players. Only those who are well-prepared for any kind of situation can claim victory.
1. Know Your Role
This type of battle is like a real war; there are certain roles that need to be filled in. For example, Infantry or Assault soldiers are the main attack force of any team. They need to take down a lot of enemies; hence they carry guns with high capacity magazines. First time players often serve as infantry soldiers. Other roles that need to be filled are Snipers, Support Gunners and Designated Marksmen.
2. Find the Right Gun
Once a soldier knows his role in the battle, he can start finding the right gun and equipment. On average, a soldier needs to carry three types of BB guns and weapons. First is the primary weapon. A soldier needs a rifle or gun that shoots BB's at a rate of 300fps (feet per second) or more. Next is a secondary weapon. Usually, this is a pistol. Third is an accessory weapon such as smoke grenades or flash bombs.
3. Get Quality BBs
High quality BB pellets are essential for any battle. That's because subpar pellets will ruin any BB gun. As a rule, get .23 gm pellets or higher for 300fps shooters. For snipers, .28 gm or higher is best. Pistols should be fitted with .20 gm pellets.
4. Wear the Right Clothes
An airsoft battle will expose soldiers to the elements. That's why it's important for players to wear proper clothing during a game. If the game will be held in cold weather, remember to wear long-sleeved shirts and other warm clothes. The opposite can be said if the battle will be during warm weather. Also, bring extra clothes if the terrain will be wet and muddy.
5. Bring Protective Gear
BB pellets hurt, especially if they're shot at 300fps. That's why it's important to bring protective equipment such as goggles, masks and body armor. Gloves and boots are also essential in this type of battle. Majority of protective gear can be bought in specialty stores. For those who can't afford the gear, dozens of DIY articles on making air soft gear are available online.
6. Know Your Map
Most airsoft battles are hosted in remote locations. That said, if the map for the tournament is available online, go ahead and download it. Knowing the map in advance will give a team an edge in terms of strategizing.
7. Pack Food and Water
Battles usually go on for the entire day. That's why it's important to pack food and water that can last for the day. Sealed foods such as jerky or granola bars are excellent sources of energy, plus, they're easy to carry. Bringing extra money for food and water is acceptable, but it won't be worth much if the location of the battle is too remote and there aren't any stores in the vicinity.
8. Bring Extra Tools
BB guns can help win the war but they're worthless if they get destroyed or run out of ammo mid-game. So never forget to bring extra parts, repair kits and extra ammo during battles. Bringing extra guns and gear can mean the difference between victory and defeat.
