Personal trainers put too much focus on certifications.

However, you should not focus on this alone. There are other aspects and other skills you need to learn in order to increase your income significantly. Sales and marketing, for instance, are necessary skills to acquire and develop.

These skills will even come in handy as you branch out beyond your clientele at the gym. Or get the certifications you need but do not overlook the importance of marketing yourself. Earning certifications is essential to gain more leverage but you also need to make the most of it by knowing how to position and promote yourself. This way, you can advance your chances of increasing your earnings significantly.

They take personal training personally.

Another mistake that most personal trainers commit is that they take their job too personally. That is they focus too much on individual sessions and ignore the possibility of making more money by conducting group sessions. This is not to say that you should completely ignore customizing your services. That is valuable too, in earning your clientele's loyalty. But do not overlook other earning opportunities just because you are too fixed with servicing one client at a time.

They only adapt other's personal training methods.

Some personal trainers fail to come up with their own methods or continue to offer methods that simply do not work out for their clients. It is important that you keep on discovering other methods and techniques. Develop a program your own. Such will add real value to your current clientele and you can even use this to get more clients.
