Behind every successful man, there is a strong, wise and hard working woman.

One night President Obama and his wife Michelle decided to do something out of routine and go for a casual dinner at a restaurant that wasn't too luxurious. When they were seated, the owner of the restaurant asked the president's secret service if he could please speak to the First Lady in private.

They obliged and Michelle had a conversation with the owner. Following this conversation President Obama asked Michelle,

"Why was he so interested in talking to you.?"

She mentioned that in her teenage years, he had been madly in love with her. President Obama then said,

"So if you had married him, you would now be the owner of this lovely restaurant?,"

Michelle responded, "No. If I had married him, he would now be the President."

This story apart from being very amusing, got me thinking.

Is your partner inspiring you to greatness?

Are you running a business or trying to achieve a goal, without the support of your partner.
If you've been struggling to find a successful business, you will recognise the next scenario I'm going to describe.

You come across this great new business, that is going to make you a fortune and make all your dreams come true, for you and your family. You tell your partner and they are supportive, after all its going to make you all rich. Unfortunately, the opportunity doesn't quite work out. So you try another business, your partner is still supportive, but scepticism starts to creep in. Again unfortunately, the business fails and you have to start again. Now your partner has lost faith in you and your dream. You on the other hand, still have this burning passion and will to succeed, you know your going to make it happen, you just haven't discovered the correct vehicle to make it happen. So your next business venture, you try and keep a secret, thus avoiding the negative comments from your spouse, family or friends who in their mind thinks your just a dreamer who should just stick to your day job.

Myself and countless other people, have been in this position. But what should you do?

1. Dump your partner, because they have lost faith in you and their ambition is not as strong as yours.

2. Carry on keeping your business ventures a secret, until hopefully one day you'll succeed. Then take great pleasure in telling everyone "I told you so"

3. Communicate your goals, ambitions and reasons why to your partner, so you both share the same dream.

4. Give up, maybe you were just meant to be a failure, stuck in the JOB rat race.

The answer is never an easy one, each situation as different permutations to consider. In an ideal world, everyone wants to create success with the support of their partner. So I would personally advice solution No.3. Communicate your goals, ambitions and reasons why to your partner, so you both share the same dream.

Sit down with your partner and set your WHY and ultimate GOAL, make sure that you both come to the same conclusion. This is vital if you are to move forward as a solid unit in your relationship. Look on it like renewing your wedding vows and commitment to each other.

If this doesn't come to the conclusion you hoped for, consider one of my other options or see a relationship coach, good luck with that.

Once you establish you both want the same things, you will find it easier to communicate your entrepreneurial desire and your partner will hopefully discover theirs.

Now for the ultimate test! The next business venture you go into, totally explain and involve your partner, so you are both in it together. With you and your partner in unison, your chance of success will have increased, allowing you to live your dreams.

Who knows, you may be the next president or Prime Minister, depending which side of the ocean you live. Ask Michelle Obama.
