I started P90X2 today and boy was I ready! You shouldn't just decide to do a program like P90X2 or P90X, hop of out bed and get to it without a bit of preparation.
You need to have the right equipment, you will need to make sure your body is ready to do a rigorus program like this. In addition, you'll need to make sure your pantry is full of the foods and supplements that you'll need to get that body working at full capacity. Then you will be ready to "Push Play" and get started right with P90X2
Equipment Needed for P90X2.
To do this P90x2 right, you need the following equipment:.
Dumbbells and Resistance Bands-- You'll need the bands for V Sculpt. If you are stronger, then you might need more.
Chin up Bar-- You could use resistance bands with a door attachment, but come on, let's do it right. Get the Beachbody Chin up bar. It works great!
Stability Ball-- With P90X2 you've heard about the importance of train with unstable platforms, and nothing makes this as convenient or easy as a good stability ball. You could use furniture, but you are much better off in the long run with the Stability Ball. Most men need the 65 cm ball.
Foam Roller - This is for myofascial release techniques which is suppose to help reduce muscle and joint pain.
Medicine Ball - You can use basketballs or soccer balls, but the real thing will work better in the long run. I went ahead and bit the bullet and got four of the eight pounders. They are studier and heavier than most balls and will give you a better workout in the end.
Chin-up Max-- I finally got one and it is supposed to help you greatly improve your workouts. It helps you complete more pull-sups, and it positions your body so you'r use better form. And form is everything with P90X2. You can't get squirrely with any of the moves in P90X2 without the risk of injury. Form, Form, Form.
Push-up Stands-- I love my Tony Horton Power stands. They are a must for me with my right wrist. You get great range of motion and it really eases the strain on your wrist.
Yoga Mat-- No doubt about it, you gotta have it along with a Yoga block.
If your cross trainers are worn out, it's time to get a new pair. I wrote an article about getting the right shoes for P90X.
Take those Photos for your P90x2 Before & After Pictures!
Make sure you take your photo's before you start and register for the P90X2 Beachbody Challenge on the Beachbody website. You'll need this to get your P90X2 Challenge Shirt.
Here are some tips about the photos.
Wear a swimsuit or something like that, and make sure the color does not blend in with the background.
Take the photos in front of a solid color background, like a blank wall.
Take a number of photos in different poses. ; your arms at your side, hands on hips, Biceps Flex, side shots, and some back shots of your arms down, and with hands on hips and a another shot with the guns blazing!
They prefer that you use. jpeg files at 300 dpi resolution.
And when you are done, submit your photos to [email protected] and you could win some great prizes!
In your fitness guide there is a section on how to take your measurements. Be sure to do this. You really do want to see your progress!
The P90X2 Fit Test.
Before beginning and extreme fitness program like P90X2, it's important to be sure that your level of fitness is adequate. This is not the type of program that you start off with when you are really out of shape. This is a graduate level program. If you can't meet the minimum requirement outlined in this Fit Test, then you should start off with a program like Power 90. That's what I did. I started with Power 90, then I did P90X, and now I am up to P90X2 and ready to BRING IT AGAIN! If you have concerns about this, please feel free to reach out to me and we can talk about it. Your Nutrition Plan for P90x2.
This is a vital piece of the equation for success. Fitness + Nutrition + Support = Success. The P90X2 Nutrition guide is great! Read it from cover to cover. This is not a "diet". This is how you fuel you body to do these workouts. You have to have the right fuel in your body to do this. The guide provides plans for omnivores, vegan's and grain free plans. Go to page 13 and figure out your caloric needs so you can pick the correct plan.
I am using the basic plan, but after all my experience with fueling my body, I am upping the ante with my caloric needs to really make sure I put on the muscle. Your nutrition is key to really making this program work, so stick with it and follow the guide.
And it goes without saying, I would not do this without my Shakeology. The healthiest meal of the day!
The Supplements for P90X2.
P90X2 is an extremely intense fitness program, sheer will and determination may get you to the finish line, but to achieve the best results, you've got to have the proper quality and quantity of nutrition. Supplements are not required, but I would not do this type of program without them.
