Improving Time Management Skills
Most of us realize the importance of time but find ourselves getting late and not being able to fulfill our responsibilities and commitments on time. The result is that we have to bear the lectures and sermons on the importance of time from our elders and seniors all the time. We often marvel at the efficiency and punctuality of celebrities and wonder how they are able to have energy and time to do all that they do in the same 24 hours that all of us have. The answer to this conundrum is in better and more effective time management skills that these people seem to possess.
Better Time Management Does Not Require Extraordinary Skills
How many times it happened as a kid that you made time tables and schedules for yourself and found yourself not adhering to them for long? This is something that happens to most of us but only those who learn from their mistakes and take concrete steps to solve them are able to do more in the same time. The skills that are required for better and more effective time management are not extraordinary or available to only gifted individuals. This just requires setting realistic goals for ourselves, breaking these goals into small milestones or steps, and taking a review of our actions or progress on a timely basis.
Learn To Prioritize and You Find You Are More Effective Than Before
Of course there are some more skills that are needed for effective time management. You have to first learn to prioritize your tasks. There are tasks that are important and there are also unimportant tasks that you have to complete in a day and you have to learn to prioritize through these tasks. You also need to be a better organizer than you are at present. This means you have to organize your schedule in such a manner that you are able to complete all important tasks that you have set for yourself in a day. Make a habit of keeping a list of tasks to be completed in a day and keep ticking them off one by one as you complete them. This helps in keeping yourself motivated towards your goal and also to remind yourself of next items on your agenda.
If you do not learn to persevere, you will find that all schedule making and time tabling will soon give way to a habit of procrastination. If things are not working as planned or taking more time that you set for them, you have to persist. You also need to keep yourself focused as most people tend to postpone tasks when they find they are already behind schedule.
Try to make a list of things to do for every day. Make this list at night everyday and keep it in your pocket when you are ready for the challenge next morning. You will find that you are better organized and your tasks are also getting finished on time. After all, effective time management is all about better organization of things and tasks that are important for you in a day.
