What Type of Fitness Shoes do I need for P90X
What type of fitness shoe should you use for a P90X or Insanity type of workout? That's a good question, because shoes can literally make or break you. Before I started P90X, I wanted to make sure I had the right type of shoe because I did not want to risk hurting my knees or feet. But there is no one answer. With the plethora of shoes out there, what should you get?
Will any type of Fitness Shoe do?
When it comes to the type of fitness shoe you need, you have to think about what is the shoe made for? Running shoes are for running; therefore they provide support for heel strikes and forward movement. Golf shoes provide the stable platform. Wrestling shoes need to be flexible and light but support is not an issue. A lot of basketball shoes are high tops for the extra ankle support. This list could go on and on, so let's think about what you would need in a fitness shoe for P90X.
What about for P90X or another program like that?
With P90X you need a fitness shoe that will give your feet cushioning for the jumping with Plyometrics, and you will need the shoe to provide a stable platform for the side to side movements too. With the weight training, a firm wide base helps. And with the Kenpo, you would want a light shoe for all the kicking and foot movement, but it has to be stable enough for good foot planting. Thankfully you don't need shoes for yoga.
Do I need different types of fitness shoes to do P90X?
Thankfully, you can find one type of fitness shoe that can do the job quite nicely. Shoes made for tennis courts are another option, but I find them to be a bit heavier than cross trainers
Cross trainers.
So what brand of cross trainers should you get? Now that is the tough question. And it is a difficult question to answer. It is a lot like asking someone how much a car costs. Well, it depends. What is your budget? Are you brand loyal? Will the color of a shoe deter you from buying it? What's the answer? Research.
I did a lot of research before I got my pair of shoes I have to admit, I have always been a bit brand loyal when it comes to athletic shoes, but after a lot of reading on the internet, I found a lot of bad reviews for my preferred brand. There is just no excuse today not to utilize the Internet to find lists of the top 10 Fitness Shoes for 201X, or read lots of reviews (bad and good).
Look for online reviews for the shoes you seem most interested in. Make a list of about four to seven that you are interested in so you can take that list to the store with you.
Now go shopping!
Find the size that fits, then go for a jog around the shoe department. Does your foot slide back and forth within the shoe? Does the shoe fit nicely around your heel?
You might find two to four pairs of fitness shoes that might be suitable candidates. Don't settle for a pair of shoes on price alone.
I know color and style can affect your decision, but come on, what does the color of the shoe have to do with how well it performs and does it job. I have to admit, my shoes aren't my favorite style or color, but boy they work well.
Now that you know what brand and size you like, it's off to the Internet! Now is the time to do the price comparisons. This is what I did, and I am very pleased with the results, and so are my feet!
Those funky shoes.
I know that those funky toe shoes have come into fashion, but all I know is that loads of Podiatrists are raking in the money from treating people with foot injuries because of those shoes. Think long and hard before you make the decision. A foot injury will simply kill your ability to do P90X effectively.
As much as I like "Keds", they are not athletic shoes. Don't get your shoes from the dollar store either. It is not just your feet that are at stake. Your ankles, knees, hips, and back are all effected because of poor foot support, especially if you are overweight and very out of shape.
And speaking of funky, let's talk about those funky smelling old shoes of yours. I have on more than one occasion used my worn out running shoes too long and my feet and knees paid for it. Worn out shoes are not much better than no shoes at all.
In Conclusion
When you are looking for the right fitness shoe for P90X, it is best to look for a cross-trainer that will support your foot in all directions, is light weight, and is built to last. Cross trainers like running shoes wear out too, so I only wear mine for working out, then they come right off. You have made an investment of time and your hard earned money in them, so take care of thoes shoes and they will take care of you! Good luck finding your perfect pair of fitness shoes for P90X!
