First of all, what is residual income and what constitutes it? Residual is defined as "a payment for each rerun after initial showing". Taking such definition to online income, then residual revenue refers to income you keep on earning even after you've initially been paid for doing or creating something. For example, let's say you've written an article and sold it but you still keep all the copyright and reprint issues. Although you've been paid for the initial publication of the article online, you will still keep earning from it via republications and reprints. This means that even though you are doing nothing on the article, it continues to earn you money. Residual revenue is also often referred to as passive income or recurring income.
There are countless ways on how to generate residual income. Below is an overview of the most popular of these ways.
Network marketing. This is a perfect example because in most cases your earnings will depend on the productivity of the network you built under you. Once you are able to build a large and active network, there is very little work for you left. These people under your network will continue to build your business even as you sleep. Now, that's really passive income. Of course, there's still work for you to do but very minimal in nature.
Affiliate marketing. It will take you some time to build an affiliate site using affiliate links and banners. But once all these are set up, they will earn you commissions as long as people continue on visiting and clicking on them. Once the initial work of setting up the links is done, there's not much else for you to do except drive as many people as possible to the page hosting your affiliate links. Although the money you earn through this process is not 100% residual, majority of it is.
Blogging. The money you earn through blogging can be either residual income or direct income. For example, if you publish a blog post reviewing a product and you sell affiliate products through it, the initial income you generate is direct income. However, the subsequent income you generate will be residual income. As long as the blog post remains published, you will continue to make money from it.
Membership site. This can be a very lucrative venture if you are able to attract a lot of users for your membership site. People will keep paying you monthly fees for the privilege of being a member in your site. Your only responsibility will be to maintain the site and keep it operating most of the time. A very good example of a membership site is a subscription-based online forum.
Webinars and training courses. Again, the income from initial offering of these products is direct income but subsequent revenue are residual in nature. You can just archive these products then offer them as downloadables.
If you are really interested in generating residual income, you should start using any of the money-making strategies discussed above.
