After losing some weight, keeping it is the next step. Fats you have lost can be gained back quickly if you do not maintain a healthy lifestyle. Here are tips to maintain weight loss so that those excess pounds do not come back again.

Know the amount of calories you should consume to maintain weight. You can check the internet for such information or meet with Weight Watchers in your locality so that they can guide you.

Know the amount of calories you are currently shedding off . These are usually lower compared to the quantity you were losing before. You can put on a pedometer and go for 10,000 to 15,000 steps daily. This shall inform you the amount of calories you have burned. Once you find out the calories you are burning, do not be disappointed if the amount is lower than you expected.

After gaining information on your current weight, height and activity level, log on to the internet , find a website on weight maintenance and input these numbers on their online calculators so that you will know the amount of calories you are currently losing and the amount you should lose every day. If you do not follow the right routine for a couple of weeks, just go back and do it again. If you have a diet you need to adhere to but were unable to do so for some time, go back to it. You are allowed a few cheats weekly should you hunger for certain foods.

Add activities to your normal routine to maintain weight loss. For example, you can park farther away from work so that you will walk extra steps. You can also take the stairs instead of the elevator. During lunch break, you can walk to your favorite restaurant instead of driving to it. Find a physical activity you will enjoy to keep you going. If you have no budget for that, you can bike or roller skate around the neighborhood.

Perform not less than 5 diverse yoga poses every day. You can buy a DVD or book on yoga poses and then imitate them. When you do more, you not only maintain your current weight but you will also be stronger.

Look for low-calorie recipes found on books, magazines or newspaper or on the internet and try them at home. Once you lose weight, do not start eating all over again. To stop food cravings at night, have a healthy snack during the day such as almonds, apples, carrots and raisins. Always drink at least eight glasses of water daily to get rid of hunger pangs and maintain weight loss.

When eating outside of your house, you can share your meal with a friend. There are many foods that are large in portion sizes and can be shared by two. If the restaurant offers complimentary appetizers or pastries, decline them. Respect your new eating habit to lose weight. Stay away from social pressures where you need to dine out to look cool and sociable.

Once you have set your eating schedule, follow it. Never eat anything a couple of hours prior to bedtime so that the food you consumed will be digested properly and you would be able to sleep better.
