The Power of Belief and transformation

I am skiing this week in Ruidoso New Mexico I've not been skiing for over 10 years and was never very accomplished. My step children, Jaclyn 7 and True 10 had never skied. Is it possible to think you can't and find out you can? If so what does that look like?
The power of belief to fail

Both of them said it was impossible to learn how to sky. I came up with everything I could think of to convince them that they could to no avail. Then my wife, Clair, took each of them, one at a time up the lift, to the top of the hill and got them started down the slope. Both of them fell multiple times, cried, said they wanted to quit over an over again. Slowly, as Clair told them they could do it and kept pushing them they started to learn that they could.
The power of belief and change

By the end of the day, both of them we so excited that they had learned to make it down the mountain. It was an amazing process. They didn't believe it was possible which made the learning very painful. They fought every step of the process and brought both me and Clair to our whits end.

What is the difference between those that can and those that can't? Both have the power of belief, at work in their lives. From what I observed, it's the Niki mantra"JUST DO IT". Did you ever have that feeling that you can't. Can you remember a time when you felt that strong power of belief that you can't but moved forward anyway? Can you recall a single time, when you started something that way and become competent and skilled, with practice repetition. Did you have a mentor help you though the process?

The difference between what I attempted to do with the kids by talking to them and what Clair did was The power of belief, created by massive uncomfortable action. I was explaining the theory of what to do, as I understood it. The how to start skiing in words. Clair simply grabbed them and put them both into action, while they were kicking and screening saying that it was impossible. Action, with failure, getting up and doing it again, until they each began to see and feel that it was possible.

Once they experienced it the power of belief took hold and they now believed it was possible and their world transformed. Sometimes we need others to force us to discover we can do what we believe we can not. If we can't have faith in ourselves its wonderful if someone else can and help us transform our lives with possibilities.
