Tennis - The Beautiful Game ( Part 1 )

This remarkable web site and enterprise Empower Network has indeed accomplished just what it says, empowered me to blog concerning my love and passion that is the game of Tennis.
I have been playing for approximately 30 years now and have had countless awesome experiences and met many amazing individuals some of whom I will probably mention in my future columns.

The initial few blogs will be a history in reference to Tennis and myself, after that I shall share subjects, concepts and all sorts of things concerning the wonderful pursuit so continue tuning in people or person more likely !
Well as I said it was approximately 30 years prior ( or even maybe a little longer but hey, who's counting) when I grabbed a racket and enrolled in a local club called Southbourne Tennis Club which my pop went to, yet it wasn't till a few years afterwards that I took the game seriously, I had obtained some private lessons or one on one coaching before and so I knew what I was undertaking and the fundamentals were all right, a few group lessons I had were through an amazing guy called Graham Holden who had actually played junior Wimbledon and sure knew precisely what he was talking about and he provided me a very good grounding in the game and I will be ever grateful regarding that. I went to a different club at this time, Christchurch Tennis Club, and the people there were really great and I started to play pretty well, well enough as a matter of fact to play a couple of team matches in one of the lower leagues and I can even remember winning a mixed doubles event in the Club tournament with a great Tennis player as well as friend Alison Hockey (I even still have the shield that I got for winning! ).

So that was in about 1987, the subsequent year I did something that I was tremendously proud of and that was a 24 hr Tennisathon for Children In Need for which we raised just over ₤ 1000, it was on a frosty November day/night and the Tennis court surface literally iced over making things extremely tough (the surface was smooth concrete and so you can visualize how treacherous it was! ).

Also in 1988 apart from playing in tons of ratings tournaments all around the south west (I had not been that good but extremely eager:)) I also went to London to do a 'Masterclass' Tennis training course which trained people the skill-sets required to teach Tennis and dealt with what was at that point the USPTA (United States Professional Tennis Association) basic principles. It was very valuable plus granted me loads of ideas of ways to greatly improve my very own game (which is actually the key purpose I carried out the training course) alongside employing it as a coaching aid.

Moving on and things got a lot more exciting when for whatever reason I came to a decision to join quite possibly the leading club in the south of England called 'The West Hants Lawn Tennis And Squash Club' I'm afraid my recollection regarding specifically where I was actually residing or even precisely where I was working is a little unclear regarding this time period as I have actually had a lot of varied employments and moved around quite a bit albeit within the same location however suffice it to say this is where I was Tennis wise and I adored the club and attended as many club sessions as I could which was about 3 or 4 times per week.
