SpotOn Golf Press Release:
By Jesse Graham.
SIGHT is one of the most important factors when it comes to perfecting a golf swing: keeping a still head and a keen eye can make the difference between a good and a bad swing.
Even world-class golf players such as Tiger Woods have invested in corrective procedures such as eye surgery, but there is now a more accessible way to improve eyesight.
SpotOn Golf Glasses are an innovative invention by Melbourne resident Jim Shreenan that aim to improve golf swings by using specially placed holes.
Mr Shreenan said that the glasses help players to perform according to their capabilities, in a number of ways.
"SpotOn Golf Glasses offers another perspective to their game," he said. "By helping them to focus on the ball consistently and correctly and during their club swing, preventing excessive head sway."
The specialised slots and holes on the glasses have been fine-tuned to the millimetre to ensure that players have the optimum training aid.
The glasses, which are available in both left and right-handed variations, have been endorsed by professional golf coach, Charlie Earp and by Daily Mail writer Richard Shears.
"Yesterday I wore Jim Shreenan's new wrap-around shades – and found my game looked even better," he said.
"I have never struck the ball more sweetly."
Mr Earp, who coached professional player Greg Norman and is a member of the Sport Australia Hall of Fame, openly endorses the glasses.
"They (SpotOn glasses) will certainly make a difference to the run-of-the-mill player who has problems keeping his head still," he said in a Jerusalem Post article.
"The glasses are a good aid for players who want to help themselves at practice."
Mr Shreenan said in a Golf Australia article that before the SpotOn glasses' creation, he was plagued by poor golf games, due to his head moving during his shot.
"I had one mate who would beat me every time, usually it was only by one shot," he said.
"Afterwards he would tell me that I was moving my head."
He turned to reading books by Jack Nicklaus about golf and said that head movement was one of the biggest problems when trying to land a strong golf shot.
"He said that if you move your head, you are never going to hit a golf ball," he said.
Arnold Palmer says the same, so does Gary Player.
"Every good golfer and coach says to keep your head steady."
This could be why Golf's governing body; the R&A has deemed the SpotOn glasses illegal for use in competition and tournament play, under the Artificial Devices and Unusual Equipment rule.
However, the glasses will still make for an ideal training device for learners and seasoned players alike, perfecting games and shaving strokes down over time.
The glasses, which have received widespread critical acclaim, will retail for $247 but until end of February be available online for $149 excluding delivery.
