Many gamer heads turned for a split-second away from the Call of Duty Black Ops 2 they were playing when the Avenger controller was announced in late May in 2012. The revolutionary gaming modifier promises to address the time-old gamer issue/excuse of response lag time ("But I pressed it!") by remapping the controller's action buttons-usually the XYAB buttons-to hair triggers controlled by the pointer and middle fingers.
With a promised better gameplay and with praises from many online gaming communities and blogs, it is understandable why so many gamers made a beeline to the nearest game stores, resulting in the controller selling out a day after it was put on the shelves. But even though the controller sold like hotcakes , what are some of the disadvantages that should be weighed alongside the obvious advantages? Here are a few.
Con: Easily Sold Out
That success could also be a minor downfall. In just a day, the Avenger controller was sold out in all major game stores across the US, with waitlists for the next batch of shipment. In fact, a few of those who got the controller late found themselves with an allegedly half-finished product-a fully functional Avenger but missing the all-over black paintjob. Some consumers reported having received controllers with black-and-gray colors rather than the all black controller seen in all the ads.
Pro: It Really Works
Despite the early sellout, it is quite obvious that the Avenger controller is something that really does the job . Its customizable hair triggers will take quite some time to get used to (usually around a week or two), but when the player has got himself or herself adjusted, they will see the difference immediately.
Con: Quite Expensive
It is no secret that the Avenger comes with a big price tag. $50 is no spare change, though that does not stop serious gamers and avid collectors from getting the controller modifier.
Pro: Available in Both the Xbox and the PlayStation
One great thing about the Avenger is that it covered the two biggest slices of the gaming console pie. It is available in both consoles, so there will be no squabbles from fans from either side of the fence.
Con: Versions for Xbox and PlayStation Sold Separately
Would it not be great if the Avenger could somehow house controllers from both consoles? If you are a serious gamer, chances are, you have both the Xbox and the PlayStation (not to mention a few Nintendo gems), for games that are only available in one console . If you have titles that are solely found on either of the game, you will be tempted to shell out another $50.
These are but a few of the pros and cons of getting an Avenger for yourself. But despite the hefty price tag and the ridiculous looks ("like a spider mating with a controller"), nothing but praises can be said for how it performs and affects the overall gaming experience.
So, should you get the Avenger controller for yourself? What do you think?
