Most gamers have probably heard their mothers shriek, "You've been in front of that TV for hours!" at one time or another. Or they could probably say "I wish I could play games the whole day!" The truth is, no matter how hardcore a gamer is, he or she could not probably last playing for more than a few hours at a time.
The reason is simple: hands cramp up after an hour or so of playing, especially when playing intense games like Call of Duty Black Ops 2. Most people will just shrug it off, saying that their cramps are just because of playing games for far too long (though in a way, that is true). However, little do they know that repeated hand cramping can result in more serious complications, like carpal tunnel syndrome and other nerve problems.
So How Can This Problem Be Cured?
The easiest solution to cure hand cramping during long periods of game playing would be to stop playing games. Seriously, that is the only way to stop cramping in the hands. Gameplay was not designed to keep hands relaxed and supple, especially not with all modern console controllers.
Of course, this article was not created to force gamers to stop playing games . There are simpler ways that players can do to help reduce, at least, hand cramping.
The Controller is the Culprit
When a gamer is tense, he or she will tend to grip the handles of the controller tightly, keeping that thumb like a tightly coiled spring ready to leap into action. First-person shooting games are very notorious for this, though if anyone was tense during a round of Call of Duty Black Ops 2, that person is fully justified; that game is a playground for trigger-happy people-in a good way, that is.
Since being tense comes naturally , a good way to relieve hand cramps is to control gripping so that the controller is not squeezed too hard. The easiest way to do this is to let go of the controller for every 15 minutes or so, taking a 5-minute breather and shaking the hands loose to relieve tension.
Almost immediately after reading that last sentence, gamers all over the world yelled their fury. "But that will ruin the game experience!" And it will certainly do just that, especially when playing a fast-paced game like Call of Duty Black Ops 2.
Avenger of Gamers Everywhere
Gamer salvation is at hand! And, incidentally, at their own hands. There is a controller modification equipment called the Avenger controller. This new controller is a case for Xbox or PlayStation controllers that remap the XYAB buttons to be controlled by idle index and middle fingers using a hair-trigger flicking motion.
What the Avenger controller does is two things. One, it makes playing FPS games like Call of Duty Black Ops 2 cooler by simulating firing weapons in-game by pulling a trigger; and two, it opens up the hand, frees idle fingers, ultimately reducing reflexive gripping during tense moments. The only set back? It costs $50 apiece .
