Marijuana addiction is something that many celebrities are reluctant to admit and understandably so, because they are concerned with how it would affect their popularity. Despite this reluctance, there are a number of celebrities in recent years that have come out as being hooked on weed. Here is a short list of some of them.
Bizzy Bone. A former member of the hip hop group Bone Thugs-n-Harmony, Bizzy (real name Byron McCane) was set to appear on the fourth season of the VH1 reality show Celebrity Rehab, hosted by Dr. Drew. He reportedly sought to seek treatment for marijuana addiction as well as alcohol dependence. However, Bizzy ultimately did not participate after the show had to delay production when it failed to land a big star as headliner. In a recent interview, he admitted that he continued to smoke weed, although he had broken his addiction to alcohol and drugs such as ecstasy.
Carnie Wilson. The member of the pop group Wilson Philips briefly used marijuana as a way to help her deal with her addiction to food. However, Carnie became worried that she might become hooked on it because of her addictive personality and so she started psychotherapy sessions in April 2000 to help her quit. In a recent interview, Wilson said that she couldn t smoke a joint because her obsessive-compulsive personality would drive her to want 10 joints.
Eric Roberts. The actor and brother to Julia Roberts, as well as father to actress Emma Roberts, did appear on Celebrity Rehab in its fourth season in 2010 to seek treatment for his sixteen year marijuana addiction. He explained, however, that he only used marijuana for medicinal purposes, in order to treat his anxiety disorder. Roberts successfully completed the program and said that quitting had helped him with his insomnia. In 2011, however, Roberts was quoted as advocating the legalization of weed.
Snoop Dogg. The rapper is one of the most public marijuana addicts, and has many convictions for possession of the drug. In 2012 alone, he was busted twice for possession of marijuana, most recently when he tried to enter Norway for a performance at a music festival. He was caught with eight grams of weed at Kjevic Airport, as well as bringing in too much cash. Although he was allowed to perform, Norwegian officials prohibited Snoop from re-entering the country until summer 2014, along with a fine of 52,000 kroner (around $8,600). In January, he had been busted by border police in Sierra Blanca, Texas.
Willie Nelson. The country superstar is another unapologetic weed user, although his marijuana addiction seems not to have seriously affected his life and his performances. Nelson has been busted at least four times for possession of marijuana over the past forty years, but he s simply paid the accompanying fines and moved forward.
Woody Harrelson. The actor is another unrepentant pot head, making no secret of his marijuana addiction. In fact, Harrelson is one of the most public celebrity supporters for the legalization of marijuana in the US.
