Choosing the Best Child Care
If you're planning to return to work after your baby is born, day care is a primary concern. Your childcare provider will be spending a lot of time with your child, so it is critical that you be secure with the surroundings and the type of care your child will be receiving. There are a few options, each with benefits and drawbacks. Invest some time evaluating each alternative, in order that you can make the choice that best suits your needs.
The first option is in-home child care, meaning a sitter, or nanny who comes to your residence to watch the child. This is without a doubt the most pricey option, but it has many conveniences. Your young one will be at home, and will have the full focus of the childcare professional. Additionally, your child will be exposed to fewer illnesses, and you will not have to transport them back and forth on your way to and from work. The main drawback is that you have no real alternate if your nanny gets sick or wants to take a holiday. Another thing to think of is your feelings if your child develops a very strong bond with the nanny. More than one mother has been wounded by the feeling that the child is more comfortable with the nanny than with her.
The second alternative is a small-scale home childcare, suggesting you hire an individual who will keep your little one in her residence, perhaps with her own youngsters or one or two others. This is a great possibility if you would like your youngster in a home setting, but can't afford the full time nanny. This alternative shares the same inconveniences of having a childcare professional in terms of no backup strategy.
The third possibility is a regular childcare center. Typical daycares are reasonably priced, and there is no need to fret about a caretaker getting sick or wanting to take long weekend. A preschool might also be more of a learning atmosphere than home care, which will become more important to you as your youngster gets older. The primary downsides of daycares are that your youngster is exposed to all the germs of all the children. Be prepared for the both of you becoming ill time to time. The other downside is the numbers of children being cared for. For instance, in most states, the law requires one caretaker per ten infants. Now, I don't know about you, but I could not effectively care for ten children alone. So, if you decide to use a daycare center, be sure to ask their caretaker to child ratio. Search for one with about seven or eight babies per caretaker.
Choosing your little one's day care arrangement is one of the most significant decisions you'll make. Even after you've selected a care option, be diligent about ensuring that your child is being given the best attention. Don't fear to ask questions, and let the caretaker know what is very important to you. It's critical not only to your child's security, but to your own piece of mind.
