Fantasy football is essentially a game where each player plays the role of a football team manager. Players get to make their own team by choosing players from different teams of the National Football League. The point of all this is for players to join a league, which usually lasts a season, and use their team to go against the teams made by other people.
Now before going out there and joining a fantasy league it's important to know certain things. Being armed with the right information will be of a tremendous help in playing a fantasy league. Here is some information that will cover some of the basics of playing in a fantasy league.
The Different Types of Fantasy Leagues
A league can is composed of an even number of teams starting at eight with sixteen being the largest league. There are six types of fantasy football leagues that a person can join. The six types of leagues are standard draft, dynasty, auction draft, survivor, IDP, and keeper.
Standard draft leagues are the most popular fantasy leagues. Players are chosen in a serpentine style draft. There are also two types of standard draft, which are the total points and the head-to-head.
Total points is where a team accumulates points until the end of the regular season with teams that have the highest scores advancing to the playoffs. Head-to-head is where teams are paired against each other for each week. The team that gets more points wins. Only teams with the greatest win to loss ratios enter the playoffs.
Team Composition in Fantasy Leagues
The truth is that there really is no typical number of players for a fantasy football league team. The rules regarding the number of players on a team really depends on the league as each league has its own rules. That being said, the teams usually have three running backs, two tight ends, two defensive units, one kicker, three wide receivers and at least two quarterbacks.
Trading Players in a Fantasy League
Teams are also allowed to trade their players if they are able to make a deal before the deadline for trading arrives. Most leagues also have a regulatory system in place to oversee the trades being conducted. This system is implemented in order to prevent two players from collaborating with one another in order to make one super team.
Fantasy League Lineups
The owners of each fantasy team submit their starting lineup for each week. Owners take certain factors into consideration such as match-ups, players on a weekend bye, injuries and so on.
Any change made to the lineup must be done before the start of a game. An owner who doesn't make a change to their lineup will be stuck with the lineup during the previous week. This is very important as one of the most common and crucial mistake that a fantasy football team owner can make is forgetting to change their lineup.
