The Basics of Internet Marketing: A Beginers View.

If you are thinking of starting a home based business (or if you already have one up and running) an internet marketing program could be very important to your company's growth and profits. In this article I will present an outline of the basics of an internet marketing program. I will also mention some resources that I have found useful in this work. I should note at the outset that this will be presented at a beginner's level since I am relatively new to internet marketing myself.
Internet marketing is based on leveraging the way internet search engines work to drive potential customers to your website. So the first step in creating an effective internet marketing campaign is to understand that search engines use keywords to direct internet searches. Armed with this knowledge, one must develop a list of the keywords that are the most relevant to one's product or service. Google has a free tool, in Google AdWord, which is great for researching keywords. Once the key words are selected, the next step is to build your website.
An effective website can be quickly and easily built, with a little training, using Word Press. The important consideration when building your website is the end goal; converting clicks into sales or contacts. With that goal in mind don't become too focused on making a spectacular looking website; function is more important than form in this case. The important aspects of website function include, how fast the website loads up, and you only have a matter of seconds to capture a visitor's attention before they hit the back browser button. As important as speed is content is even more so. Specifically, websites that have lots of relevant (as in relevant to the keywords one is optimized for), high quality content will rank better, with internet search engines, than those without. Finally, your website should have links to outside authoritative sources. As an example, if your website is about income taxes, a link to the Internal Revenue Service's website might be in order. One word of caution, avoid the temptation to load your website down with affiliate marketing links; this could hurt your search engine rankings. Once your website is constructed, consider the types of content that you will produce.
The first consideration with content is relevancy. Your content must reflect the keywords that you are important to you; a terrific article on migratory song birds won't help if your business is plumbing supplies! The second consideration is value; your content must be beneficial to your readers; simply attempting to loading an assortment of affiliate marketing hyperlinks into a poorly written and vacuous article does not add value. Finally, consider the many forms that your content might take; article, blog post, and video. In the case of website content, having a combination all three is advantageous. The approach that I like is to write an article, make a video based on the article, and then produce a blog post on the same subject. I find this approach very productive since the hard part, writing the content, is only done once. Now that you have your content written how do you send it out to the internet?
Article distribution can be accomplished in a number of ways; I will only discuss the one I use, Spin Distribute. The article contains URLs linking back to the website that is being promoted, thereby generating backlinks. Incidentally, large numbers of back-links to one's website improve the search engine ranking which is the name of the game. Video distribution is done through any number of services, certainly You Tube is the best know (it is also free).
This was a very brief description outline of how internet marketing is currently practiced. The information to "flesh out" this outline can be found in various internet marketing training courses. The one that I am using is Internet Marketing Mentoring and Coaching Center (IMMACC). Again, in the interest of transparency, I do have an affiliate marketing relationship with this organization. Working with the IMMACC training for just the past three weeks, I have been able to begin building an effective internet marketing program to drive significant traffic to my website.
