To me it was always so nice to hear positive words. Nothing new, right. Beside this, I have read plenty of blog posts coaching how to think positive and to be a better person.
After reading a book, I practiced lessons for a while and after a few months... I reminded myself everything about positive thoughts passed away. Then I read another book and the story repeated. And then another and it repeated again. I stopped back to reevaluate the situation, because it worried me more and more.
The conclusion was: "Positive thinking doesn't work to me". Am I so unique?
No! I'm a just a regular quy.
So where is the problem? I mean, if it doesn't work for me, does it work for the rest of the world? I would like to hear from you.
Actually, the best news here is that the positive thinking works for a period of time.
The biggest problem occurred when something happened spontaneously. Then, I reacted instinctively and that was far from thinking in a positive way. Another problem I noticed was, when I worked on something for hours and I didn't even like it. In this case, I couldn't take even a quick glance on something positive. I was so overloaded that my focus didn't work at all.
So where is the catch?
What if positive thinking isn't meant to be practiced in tough situations? And what if positive thinking isn't meant to be easy?
I analyzed my daily reactions and found some interesting conclusions.
First one based on the level of life energy. I would define life energy compared with the battery, but more complex. When the battery is fully charged, it gives full power to a device with no problem. When it is on a reserve level, a device can't work properly and a red light starts to flash. It was pretty much the same with me.
Being too long on a reserve energy level, I couldn't react with joy or with other kind of being positive. When I was in a "passionate" mood, nothing stopped me. It's easier than to react with positive words and actions. Where is the secret?
When my mind focuses, it is so strongly oriented to a few great patterns, that nothing can turn it around towards bad habits. A tip should be: build the level of life energy. Do passionate things!
Second, positive thinking is nice, but not good enough. It's too damn hard to think positive when something is going wrong. Is there any secret?
Let's see briefly how our mind works. Every single thought starts with setting a question. Then, our brain starts to work like a search engine and focuses on a certain habit. After processing this thought through the pattern, the result comes in a shape of a feeling and a decision. That's briefly... but there are some shortcuts too.
So what can we do when something goes wrong?
We can't change our pattern so fast, but we can notice the situation, write it down and change it later. Of course we need to know how to transform, but that's a new story.
I found it best when I practiced the metaphor that life is a game. In this game I'm the one who discovers new territories. That's why I like being challenged by new things.
When something "bad" appears suddenly or it doesn't work as I thought I ask myself: "What's good about this? Or, What can I learn from this and still have fun?" It took me a little practice to set me in this mood and to question myself immediately after the challenged situation appeared.
Oh, and something more. I started to use words as challenge and game instead of "bad" and wrong. These simple words help a lot when we use them in every day talk and creating thoughts.
Third, positive thinking is the way I use when I create metaphors or visualize during meditation. I don't set questions to create positive thoughts but I do select positive words and lead my mind on the flow I like. It relaxes me and refills my energy in a short period.
Finally Practice! Nothing of this would work if I wouldn't practice it. To me it seems that the best way is knowing how to stay in charge of my own thoughts and if it doesn't work, how to set them on the flow I like. It doesn't sound like any spiritual theme, I know, it's not.
