Twitter Marketing for DJs
As you may have read on the Facebook Marketing article, I was pretty late to catch the social media vibe, and it took me a while to realise that I could market myself as a DJ on social media outlets. I found it hard to understand how a place like Twitter could help me as a DJ; sure, I knew that it reached a huge global readership, but I thought the 140 character limit would basically make any promotion redundant.
I realise now I was being naïve about what is expected when promoting yourself on such sites, and in fact my concerns about the character limit were complete nonsense, for a couple of reasons. Firstly Twitter is essentially a window into your life, albeit in a condensed sound bite form, and secondly, once I thought about it, DJing perfectly suits this kind of social outlet. Think about it like this, as a DJ everything you do is to grasp an audience in the quickest time possible, and Twitter fits this ethos.
Any fears I had about Twitter providing a promotional platform for my DJing activities were totally expelled, because there is loads you can do for yourself with your tweets. One of the major things Twitter allows you to do is link news and information about yourself, yes you have 140 characters but you can link outside sources such as your own website.
One of the biggest advantages I have enjoyed from Twitter is the ability to link with other DJ's, and believe me this is really important. Aside from enjoying tips and learning new things from the DJ community, you will be able to enhance your career, something I have found to be the case. If you interact with your fellow DJ's, then who knows a future collaboration could be just around the corner.
You need to reach as many people on Twitter as possible, and there are 3 ways you can do this. Firstly a good product is essential, if you are a good DJ then people will follow you, and secondly you must be entertaining. This does not mean cracking jokes every five minutes, you can take your DJing seriously, but remember to keep it fresh, snappy, and to entertain your followers.
Both of these steps will help you to build your followers list, but if you want to go that extra mile and get many more followers, then there is a tool that can help. Friendbomber and friendadder can help you to reach the largest amount of people by allowing you to automatically mange your account, while of course they will also boost your follower levels, helping you reach a wide range of people.
It used to be the case that friendadder and friendbomber programs would be fairly unselective in which friends they would invite, but luckily they have gotten a hell of a lot more sophisticated, and they now find friends relating to your specific niche.
